Yes and it was and is awesome!! I am so so glad I did it. My era were really bad bf so I had a higher chance of needing and adjustment after, and I do need glasses for driving and things like PowerPoint presentations now, but its still so worth it. You are in the Boston area, right? (If I'm wrong I blame mom brain). I went to the tlc in Waltham. I am happy to answer any questions you have about the whole thing!

@Foodnerd81: Atlanta! lol
Dh got it done 6 years ago. He said it was the best thing ever too! His vision is still perfect!

Yes I had it last summer and it is the most amazing thing ever to be able to wake up, open your eyes and SEE! Best money I've ever spent.
The only side effect is dry eyes, but a drop in each eye first thing when I wake up and I'm good for the day. My optometrist says pregnancy could be making it worse too so I'm interested to see what happens when I'm no longer KU.

I would love to but I don't think I'm a candidate yet. Come on technology, get a little more advanced please!

I'm too scared! Plus I think I look better in glasses
Oh and I chatted with an ophthalmologist (who performs Lasik) informally over dinner once. He wore glasses so I asked him why he hasn't/wouldn't do it. He said he thinks that PRK is better... and he might consider it in the future. Interesting....!

I don't need glasses, but I have a friend who did get lasik! It was pretty quick, she only had to take 1 day off work. Now she doesn't need glasses, which is pretty awesome!

No, my vision isn't annoyingly bad, but I'm trying to convince DH to get it! His vision is atrocious

Yep! I could never wear contacts because I hateee things touching my eyes. Best decision ever! As nervous as I was, if I can do it, anyone can!

Yes! Got it when I was 20 - so over 13 years ago - gulp! BEST thing ever!!!

@chopsuey: Let's do it together!! hehe!
I just searched for threads on lasik and revived this one (the latest one) because I am just coming back from the opthamologist... after 3 months with her and my chronic severe dry eye improving with restaysis, she's ready to diagnose me as contact lens intolerant. AHHH!!! I've been wearing contacts every single day, all day, for 18 years so this is a bit of a shocker and a lifechanging moment. I've been wearing glasses every day for the past month and even though my eyes have adjusted, the news of not being able to wear contacts anymore got me seriously depressed. I might as well throw away all of my eye makeup and stock up on a ton of astringents... and throw away all of my sunglasses. And stock up on eyeglass cleaner because my lenses are always touching my skin and getting greasy and so annoying.
Grr.
Anyway, the good news is that she thinks I will probably be a candidate for lasik. I have a crazy prescription (-9.5 in one eye, -8 in the other, with mild astigmatism) which fluctuated with both pregnancies, but I'm pretty sure I'm done with kids and breastfeeding. She measured my corneas and said I have abnormally thick ones, so that's a great thing considering the strength of my prescription. I'm going to continue to treat my dry eye to get it totally managed before my consult with the lasik doctor in a month, because they won't consider you for lasik if you have any dry eye at all. They will probably put in punctal plugs with the procedure considering my history of dry eye... and I will probably get worse dry eye afterwards, but since I'm using FOUR kinds of drops every day anyway, it won't be much of a change to treat that.
Now to figure out insurance, HSA, and payment plans... ahhhh. Oh, and keeping my fingers crossed that she's right and I will be cleared as a candidate.

@mrs. wagon: I had dry eye too...and was able to get LASIK and it was the best decision ever! I did the punctal plugs but they just kept coming out. I did all the eye drops and the vitamins. I think the best thing was not wearing contacts for a while (I had had mine since 7th grade). Also, any allergy meds will also dry out your eyes so stop those of possible. Also, make sure to blink a lot...they did studies and a person blinks an average of x times a minute (can't remember but it's like 35)...watching tv reduces it by half or more...working a computer it was in the single digits...and blinks refreshes your tears so years working in front of a computer is terrible for dry eyes. And if your eyes are full of tears your vision is way better bc of the moisture and light refraction or whatever...
Anyway, I was super scared but did it about 3 years ago and my only regret is I didn't do it sooner!

I'm going to get it once we're done having kids! My eyes got a lil worse after DS and I'm anticipating more changes in the coming years!

I have dry eye too and a coworker said she had the same issue but recently got Lasik.
I am going to ask my doc about it during my next visit, in 2 weeks.
I really hope I am still a good candidate, I would love to get it done in January.

@sandy: thanks!! yes, my opthamologist told me a lot of the things you listed... I've literally been blinking like a million times a minute lately. It's a million times worse on days I work so I know I'm barely blinking at the computer.
I'm really excited to do it

DH did it 6+ years ago and loves it! He suffered from dry eyes afterwards for awhile. Not uncommon.

@mrs. wagon: I was in the exact same situation! Now 3 years postop after LASIK I'm super happy

@mrs. wagon: wow! I can't stand wearing glasses for longer than an hour. I would go crazy having to wear them all day every day!
I hope you can get LASIK! Your prescription is crazy! Mine are -4 in each eye. I'm okay with wearing contacts for now. Will probably get LASIK once I wean J! So in a year or so!

@mrs. wagon: Oooh, that's promising!! I wonder if DH is contact lens intolerant. Ever since he got back from Iraq, his eyes haven't been the same and he can't tolerate contacts for that long. I thought my eyes were too nearsighted for any sort of corrective surgery but maybe it's an option now... (I'm similar to your RX but with a greater astigmatism).

@MsLipGloss: @Leialou: Me, three! I even scheduled lasik for myself once. I bought all the suggested vitamins and was taking them, but chickened out and cancelled just before.

I had Lasik done in 2004. Best money I've ever spent on myself. Had to wear contacts/glasses form 20 years before then. I still have perfect vision.
Just do your research. Ask for testimonials.

@mrs. wagon: this totally happened to me, my eyes became intolerant of the contacts so much so that when is put in even a new pair my eyes would get so irritated it was almost like an eye infection. It was either go to glasses full time or get LASIK so I did the LASIK. It was a great decision!!
