I really want to do this since my dress is sitting in my closet. Also, I doubt my daughter will want to use it for her wedding.
I might be able to ask one of my two aunts to make it.
Anyone else considering doing this?

I want to do this! Though I don't have the experience to do it myself. I may just take the plunge anyway, but the longer I put it off, the least likely it'll happen.

I'm Jewish. But I think it's such a sweet ideas! And you could save the scraps that you have leftover in case your lo wants to use it for her wedding. I used part of my mom's dress (she didn't preserve it so I couldn't wear it) as the ribbon for my bouquet, and my sil used it for part of her chuppah.

Adorable idea! Depending on the area you took the fabric from and the style of your dress, you could do both the christening gown and picture idea from pinterest.

I definitely intend to do this- it seems we're having twin girls so it's actually good that I was larger for the wedding, there's plenty of fabric to make two christening gowns! Also I think the dressmaker I used is still local so I would happily use her again. I intend to keep the French lace strips (that are under the bust) so that my girls can use them in their dresses or at least in their bouquets.
Although that pinterest is awfully pretty... Maybe the dressmaker could get enough from the skirt of the dress for the gowns leaving the option of the bodice for a photo like that.

I love that ideas! My mil made veils for sil and I from the lace of her dress. Mine doesn't have much in the way of lace and its just sitting in the closet. Hmmmmm.....

Although I do foresee some resistance from his family as my dress is ivory, not white... They can just put up with it, I caved on plenty of things for the wedding, I won't be so soft for my babas!

Not a christening dress, but I've always wanted something made for LO from my dress, not sure what. Any ideas? Maybe a 1st birthday party dress?

I think it's a great idea! I'd love to have done one, but my dress isn't the best for making it into a unisex style.
I think a first birthday dress is a great option, or a pettiskirt out of the veil if you had lots of tulle for a photo shoot.

@looch: Yeah, if I do one, I'll probably see if they can make one dress and one suit out of it. So then it won't have to be unisex.

My daughter wore my christening gown to her christening. And, since she was already nearly two when we got married, she wore a dress made from the same fabric as my dress to our wedding! That was really special to me.
