I saw a demo at Costco and think they are really cool but they are really expensive.
They had a cheaper model for $400 and there was another model that was even more expensive.
Maybe I can find a cheap one on craigslist.

We have the blendtec. Love it! Considered the vitamix but decided against it!

No, but I WANT one! A couple of my friends have them and think they are awesome. She has the older model, which is the $400 one you mentioned, I think.

We have one. I have to admit I didn't understand when DH wanted it, but there is nothing it can't handle! We used gift cards and such to get the 500 model.

I have one and I LOVE it
I don't feel as bad about the price when I know I will have it for a very long time. I did happen to get one when they were on sale at the beginning of last year.

No, but I really want one! Also, I've seen infomercials for the Ninja blender which looks just as awesome (and its way cheaper)

DH wants the Vitamix but I don’t get the hype. What’s so special about it? I’m leaning more towards the Ninja Kitchen System. It kills 2 birds with 1 stone and isn’t exorbitantly priced.

I have one and love it. I bought mine with gift cards and such after my bridal shower a few years ago.

We got the ninja professional blender as a wedding gift and i LOVE it!

We love our Vitamix! My mom gave it to us...We make green smoothies all the time. Great for the kids and myself! I love that it's so powerful and really blends everything up, just like a smoothie you would buy at Jamba Juice or Robeks. I think they use the same blenders.
I read somewhere that you can even make hot soup with it... I haven't looked into that too much yet.

No, but we have the Blendtec and LOVE it!!! It was a gift from my mom, bless her heart!!
It's similar to the VitaMix - I think it's definitely worth the investment because it's soooooo powerful and there's nothing it can't do!!

@SAHM0811: I make hot soup with my Blendtec all the time too... just press the "soup" button 3x and you have piping hot soup ready to go!

My parents have one and I'm obsessed, I want one so badly
pomegranate / 3329 posts
My Grandparents got one for my parents, my Aunt and my Uncle and themselves. This was about 30 years ago, but they were still really expensive! Can you imagine buying 4? Must've been a great sale, all but my Aunt still have them!

Ugh, I want one too! There is just no way I can justify spending $400+ of our measly income on a blender. Maybe one day.

We have one on loan (have had it for about a year) from our friend who works at Vitamix. They gave her one to test out and never asked for it back, so we have hers. I hope they never do, I love it! I think it will be perfect once we get to solids after LO is born.

The demo at Costco always draws me in! Then, I remember how many other things I can get with that kind of money.

Reconditioned Vitamix is on Zulily right now for $299. Is that a good price? Different colors, too.

@bluestriped bee: yes. and we got a reconditioned one, too. Have had it for 2+ years and love it.
Here are a couple of things we do with it:
Green smoothies- we all get our min fruits and veggies for the day that way. And we never waste produce.
Colloidal oatmeal- I buy bulk oats, grind 'em, and that is what we use for LO's sensitive skin. Cheap, easy and effective. Also, when she was in the drinking bathwater stage I didn't worry- it was just oats, practically good for her!
Nut butter- I read somewhere that peanut butter is made from the nastiest, sometimes moldiest, of the peanuts (makes sense) so now we buy peanuts in bulk and make our own.
Thicken soups- if my veggie soup or lentil soup is too thin, I just put some of it, with veggies or beans or meat or whatever, in the Vitamix, blend 'til smooth and add it back to the soup/stew- voila, instantly thicker without a nasty cornstarch or flour taste.

@lizzywiz: Oh, cool! At one of the Costco demos, they made soup without needing use a stove. Sounds pretty cool to me.
Is it easy to clean? I saw that you can put some water and few drops of soap and run it to clean it. Is that what you do?

We don't, but I wanted one so badly for a long time!
We do have a ninja (I wanna say it was $99 on sale) and haven't had a single complaint with it.

We have a blendtec and love it!! My SIL has the vitamin and I think our Blendtec can do all the same things.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@Leah: Oh, cool. Good to know they are essentially the same.
persimmon / 1178 posts
@bluestriped bee: yeah, it is easy to clean. You still need to do a bit of rinsing to get all of the soap out but I have never had to scrub it, even with things like peanut butter.

I have one and LOVE it! I bought mine at Bed Bath & Beyond and was able to use the 20% off coupon.

Here's a link to a page where they do a side by side demonstration of a Vitamix, Blendtec and Ninja.
We've always wanted a Vitamix but we just couldn't justify the cost. We have the Ninja in the video but got it way earlier this summer before the video was made.

You can get a certified refurbished model from their website for $299. It comes with a full 5 year warranty. I think the only used part is the base, and the top, blades, lid are brand new.
pear / 1799 posts
I would get it through them (as opposed to Zulily) because Zulily takes FOREVER to ship things.

we bought a certified used one from the vitamix website to save some money - works great, haven't had any problems at all, and we LOVE it!!!

I got the "cheap" one from Costco about a year ago and it's one of the best purchases ever!
