I think it can happen sometimes. You probably just ovulated early for some reason. The cycle I got pregnant with DS would have only been around 21 days but was normally around 30 days.

I'm freaked out I'm in early menopause... I'm really hoping this is not the issue...

@littlek: Were you stressed more this month? Anything else different going on? I doubt that it is early menopause...

@Smurfette: Actually B has been having issues with biting and I've missed a lot of work lately.. maybe that's it?
I'm 35... so I'm hoping it's not early menopause... google is EVIL

@littlek: I think one off cycle isn't reason for alarm. Everyone gets funky cycles every now and again! There are SO many things that can cause shorter/longer cycles!! Stress, change in eating habits, exercise, ectect.

@littlek: Yes, google is evil!! I am sure it was just a weird cycle. Let us know what the doc says.

@pui: Thanks! I'm just an emotional mess.. I was so hopeful for this cycle.. and the fact that I'm back at step 1 is disheartening..

Fwiw, mine have been 25 days since AF returned pp . . . they used to be 28 days. And yeah, stress can definitely throw things off!

@Smurfette: So, I called my new doctor and they said next appt was Jan 22nd... I told DH and he was like "call them back and tell them we will find a different dr." So, I called the dr that delivered B and he is seeing me tomorrow. He is a longer drive but I need a dr that is able to see me, especially since my pregnancy with B was high risk.

@littlek: Wow! That is fast. Glad that doctor can see you so fast. And I am sure it was just stress, change of diet, something that triggered it. DH will probably be upset you are back to a normal cycle this month, less BD for him.

@Smurfette: He is great at fitting me in... when I had major bleeding in first trimester he had me in his office within an hour... turns out that was the very first time we saw B on an US

@littlek: You mentioned that you had a +OPK on cd7...if you actually ovulated on cd8 or 9 (and then had an 8 day LP? That doesn't sound right) it still wouldn't necessarily be early menopause. You could have had a cyst, or even if there is something going on with your ovarian reserve, you are not in menopause, trust me. (I have severe DOR and can tell you that much for sure.)

@littlek: How old is your baby? Have you weaned yet? When did AF come back? I ask because even if you've totally weaned and AF has been back for a while, pregnancy and BFing hormones take a LONG time to get back to normal. I have 31-32 cycles like clockwork... always O at CD17 or 18 and always have a 14-day LP. This cycle, my first since DD was born, I O'ed on CD29 and had a 10-day LP and then a monster, but very short, AF. I am not letting myself get worried about the LP because I figure things are going to be kind of messed up until my cycle regulates. If you are still adjusting to your body's changes, I would totally chalk up your wacky cycle to that.

@littlek: I did have a 17 day cycle after my lass mc and my ob wasn't too concerned with just one being short. You may want to have your thyroid tested.

@T.H.O.U.: I'm definitely going to ask for blood work.
@septca: He's 18 months and we weaned awhile ago. He had a mouthful of teeth and he is a biter. I'm hoping it's just a wacky cycle. I looked at the past few months and they had all been 26 - 28 days... I'm just nervous because time is not on my side being that I'm 35.

@spaniellove: I know I should stay away from google.. but all these perimenopause hits came up when I put in 17 day cycle.. I don't have the other signs.. so I'm really hoping this isn't the case.. Even if I am in super early perimenopause I can still get pregnant, it's just more difficult.

@littlek: The fact that you had +OPKs a week apart seems to suggest something other than an ovarian reserve issue, like a cyst, or not actually ovulating this cycle. If you were just suddenly ovulating early you'd only get the one at cd7 and nothing else. Just my speculation!
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@littlek: I really really doubt that its that unless this has happened more than once or you have other issues going on.
Personally, I wouldn't even see a doctor about this, I would wait another cycle and see if things go back to normal.

@T.H.O.U.: I'm just worried because I'm 35 and the clock is ticking... I also had no issues getting pregnant twice before... so, i'm afraid something is wrong

@littlek: I asked my doctor at my annual in July if I needed to worry about my age and #2. I will be 34 in Feb, so 35 before I would be give birth, and she said that I have plenty of time. 35 doesn't mean anything these days.

Low progesterone or estrogen dominance ?
If you temp, are your temps 96's, 97's ? Maybe thyroid.
I'd say it's just stress and I wouldnt worry!

@littlek: To echo everyone else, I am sure there was just something funky going on that won't repeat itself. I am sure it wasn't early menopause!

such a strange cycle you've had and like others said, it is hopefully a one-off cycle. but kudos to you for taking charge and getting into a doctor right away. even if it's nothing, at least you'll know that and feel better going into the next cycle. i hear you on the time thing (i'm days shy of 37), and you dont need any more stress that you already have. Good luck!

Update: I went to doctor and had CD3 testing, and everything is FINE!!!! Woot woot... sooooo relieved... I have to go back for CD21 testing..

@littlek: My cycles are normally 21-23 days (post baby looks like I'm an average of 24 days.) Before we started TTC, I went in for my annual and my doctor warned me I might not be ovulating due to the short cycles, but we had to try for 6 months before any tests. We decided to move up TTC 6 months earlier than orginially planned. I got pregnant the first month, turns out I was ovulating & it appears I was ovulating every time, so some months twice. So there is hope!!

@LuLu Mom: We haven't been trying long, a few months.. so I was thrilled my doctor was so eager to help us... I'm hoping removing the stress of OPKs will help me relax and we can get pregnant soon
