I had cluster headaches for over a year which are, by all accounts, more painful than natural childbirth. The cluster headaches were intense enough that I just wanted (needed?) to die when they were going on. But there was nothing to do to reduce the pain. They got progressively longer and more frequent. Doctors couldn't help. There was next to no chance of recovery. There was no purpose behind them - all they meant was that I was suicidal but paralyzed with pain 6-12 hours a week, with the number of hours increasing steadily.

Childbirth has a point. There are things to do to reduce the pain. There IS a solution to the pain. The pain will last no more than a few days. I'll be mostly immobile, but not totally helpless. I want to see if I can do it, so my first child will be all natural, barring any huge complications.
