I am about to have young guests and I am afraid my ideas are too immature:
bowling, miniature gold, trampoline park?
any advice/ dissent/ confirmation would be appreciated!

Oh man-they talk, text, play video games and roll their eyes for fun. ;)I think they'd also like trampolines, bowling etc.

@lizzywiz: not too immature at all---middle schoolers love those things! I think other interests will vary depending on the child--I have students who are into all kinds of things from cosplay, to fencing, to wrestling, to biking, to dance, to art history. They are really just like immature, hormonal little adults.
So maybe when your guest arrives, you can feel them out a little. Some kids are more sporty, other love seeing museums. You just never know.

@lizzywiz: I bet they would get a kick out of "midnight" bowling.

@locavore_mama: yeah, disco bowling! I remember doing that for someone's party in middle school and thinking it was so cool.

Around 8 my nephews had fun learning how to play "adult" board games like Risk.

@travellingbee: @Mamaof2: @locavore_mama: @Anagram: THANKS, ladies. 2 boys, 1 girl are coming and I am really sweating it, because I also will be toting a toddler to whatever we do.
Unfortunately, video games are out- we don't even own a TV, eek.
I think I will for sure try the bowling!

@travellingbee: Hahahaha! Spoken like a true teacher. Do you teach middle school, too?

@T.H.O.U.: oh yeah, board games are fun. My 8th grade niece loves them. Also, she loves baking and cooking. I think the guys would be into that, too.

Ugh, I work with that age kids at church and they just like to go online. Girls like to take selfies and shop, while boys can play video games all day long. I think it would be helpful to actually meet/get to know them and find out what interests they have!

@simplyfelicity: I used to be a dean at a middle school. Now I teach again in an elementary school.

@snowjewelz: seriously. My niece and nephew who are 11 are glued to their iPad. I need to start limiting their screen time when they visit!

@lizzywiz: in middle school we used to go to a mall with a movie theater attached- something for everyone! Most people like bowling and mini golf! Outdoor ice cream or food places on the water... waterpark, swimming, boat rides... (I am pretty water centric!) Sounds fun!

@locavore_mama: I only have 48 hours and no b-ball game scheduled on those dates, sadly, but it gave me the idea to look at events, so thanks!
@Greentea: Ice cream shop right by my house!
Just to clarify, they are distant family that I have seen, like, twice in their lives. That is why they are kinda unknown to me. Thanks for the advice! I am feeling better and better.

@lizzywiz: we have lots of outdoor concerts here too... free concerts and good food = yes.

@locavore_mama: They are OBSESSED! Girls love their snapchat and guys all play whatever the IT game is at the moment!

@snowjewelz: snapchat & middle school girls is terrifying! it gets used to pick on each other and for boys to con girls into sharing sexual photos of themselves
on a brighter note, they sleep FOREVER so you'll only have to entertain them from like noon on you might be surprised how much they like playing with LO, or they might completely ignore LO, could go either way! i'm sure they'll bring their own screen of some sort- ipad, iphone, whatever and headphones so they can tune the real world out. food, bumper boats, go cart tracks, those indoor trampoline places (we have one called skyzone, it's a chain, they do neat activities & it's an active thing the kids still think is fun which is a rarity), they might like baking or making their own pizzas, laser tag

@mrs. bird: Whaaaat. Uggh! I usually just see them taking dumb pictures, but then again it's usually at a church setting.
