Seeing all the sleep training posts lately have made me really feel like the minority! P is my second child so I'm definitely not new to infant sleep, and I DID sleep train G so I'm not new to the process of sleep training either and definitely do understand the feeling of need to do it so I'm totally not trying to knock any of the sleep training mommas!! Please please don't think I am... I myself went through the whole CIO & sleep training process with G.
Since G though my perspective of infancy sleep REALLY changed and now I don't believe in sleep training in infancy, and maybe not at all. *gasp*
From my past experience sleep training did "work" with DS and in just a couple days he was falling asleep on his own with very minimal night wakings but it didn't really stick when it came to things like sickness, teething, or going out of town and I ALWAYS had re-train him. Thinking back I now kind of wonder if he was ever really sleep "trained". (this may have attributed to my feelings of sleep training now). I also recently read an article (wish I had bookmarked it) that talked about our infatuation with sleep training in infancy here in the states but how we have some of the worst adult sleepers in the world.... Maybe none of us were successfully sleep trained. lol
Right now P is 9.5 months waking 2-5 times a night and we night nurse & co-bed. She does pretty much go to sleep on her own (except during the first week of an approaching WW & the WW itself) and she generally naps on her own, but I guess I just figure that her waking is just part of it all and one day I'll look back and miss those snuggly times together (I know I do with DS).
Any other bees not sleep train?... Tell me I'm not alone! lol
