So, I'm all about a good joke and a riff on things that I like, but I was offended at the episode of the Mindy Project last night. If you didn't see it, it was all about how the holistic (midwives) practice upstairs was poaching their (OB) clients. They bashed midwives as hippies and not medical professionals and implied that you were basically an idiot to move to a midwifery practice because what if your birth had a medical emergency, then what?

I'm actually using an OB practice for my pregnancy, but definitely subscribe to the midwifery model of care as much as possible. I guess I'm just more sensitive to it now and I've done research about what midwives actually are and I was offended that they so easily threw out these stupid stereotypes and perpetuated myths even more.

Anyone else see the episode? What did you think?

p.s. I also had two separate conversations with two guys (last night!) that thought that as soon as labor started, I had to rush straight to the hospital, just like in the movies, so I'm realizing how much media plays into these ideas of birth.
