I think I have found a lower cost option for IVF but it's in another city about 4 hours away. Did anyone else travel to do IVF and if so, what was your experience like? Pros and cons?

I know a bunch of girls in the UK who travel to Athens and they make it work.

I think most of your monitoring would be local so it would be stressful, but doable. I think the cost and quality of clinic are huge.

@Mrs Green Grass: This one I'm looking at looks like they have very good SART stats and some of the lowest costs in the state.

Leialou was a few hours away for her embryo transfer. I think she still did her monitoring locally.
I created this thread. You could find others that traveled far. http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/how-long-is-your-commute-to-your-refertility-clinic#post-2051587

@travellingbee: then overall you'd prob have better chances of it working the first time and lower stress re: cost. So it makes a lot of sense.
Does that mean the Iui didn't work or are you preparing just in case?

My clinic was 2 hrs. from work. I found it challenging at times bc I felt like I was spending so much time in the car, especially at the end.

We drove 3ish hours for our ivf and fets. Typically we drive the day of. For the ivf they did daily monitoring so we got a hotel for two weeks and did it.
This time was local except for the transfer which was 3 hours away. It was in theory less stressful.

I had about a 5 hour commute for appointments, procedures, and transfers. It wouldn't have worked if I had not been able to take a block of time off work near the end on my stims (for monitoring ultrasounds, retrieval, and transfer), but otherwise it was great! Make sure that a local office is able and willing to do your labs and early monitoring. I'm happy to answer any questions.

Thanks everyone. I think I may have found a fairly low cost closer option. It'd still be 45 minutes away but it's better than 4 hours!'

I travel for IVF but I do all of my monitoring locally which helps a lot. The hospital I have to go to is just over 2 hours away, but I only need to go there for retrieval and transfer.

We are traveling for the second time for an FET because we moved since we first started down the IF road. But as others have said, local monitoring is no problem. I just called a local fertility clinic to schedule what they call "outside monitoring." My doc sent orders for my u/s and lab work to the local office so they know what I need. Then it's just hopping on the plane for a transfer at my original office. Pretty painless really.
