So my LO loves sleeping on her side at night, she is very picky and only likes to sleep on one side and its also easier for her to suck on her thumb when she is turned sideways. We have been using a sleep positioner since about 6 weeks to keep her on her side so she cannot roll forward, and also so she doesn't end up on her back and wake up. It has worked great up until a few nights ago when I saw her on the monitor sliding down towards the bottom of the crib and the positioner put her in a really akward position with her arms stuck up by her head. I'm really worried now that she is more mobile (15 weeks) that she will roll and turn and it is no longer safe. But the problem is, she doesn't stay on her side when I take it away and ends up waking up on her back. Will it just take her some getting used to not having the support to prop her on her side?

We used a sleep positioner for a while and then moved to using a small blanket rolled up behind and one in front to prevent LO from rolling fwd (LO was swaddled). The blankets eveually went away after he was able to sleep on his side on his own.

At 15 weeks my LO was sleeping on her side on her own. Maybe you could take it away and give it a few nights for her to get used to it.
My LO is 26 weeks now and has been sleeping on her belly for about 2 weeks.

@NovBaby1112: I can't remember exactly, but I think it was something like four months. We kind of played with the positioning of the blankets to encourage back sleeping too. Also I think you may want to try encouraging your LO to sleep on both sides so her head shape doesn't get too flat on one side

We don't use a sleep positioner, but we just recently unswaddled our LO and since then he has shown a preference for sleeping on his side (I think he just wasn't able to get into his favorite sleep position in the swaddle). He's able to get into the side position on his own and stay that way (and roll back that way if necessary), and he's 4 months old.

@T-Mom: she'll be 4 months soon so here's to hoping...lol we try to get her to sleep on her other side but she wants nothing to do with it! I was very paranoid about flat head on one side but so far I haven't noticed any difference, it's just strange how she only likes the one side
