Does the seat have an FAA sticker on the side? If so, it will fit. You can use the seat according to weight limits (if baby is within the RF limits for seat, you can RF, and same for FF). I would NOT use any additional harness or belt system other than the car seat straps (as your seat was not tested with other straps). We just secure the seat with the plane belt via the belt path. Your manual might have information for air travel. Our manual is worthless (it just says it's approved for air travel).

I have traveled with our safety first guide 65, which we bought specifically for air travel. It fits great and is pretty light. I would definitely bring a carseat assuming that LO has his own seat AND you have an extra pair of hands to help you carry everything. I found having the carseat on the plane to be so much easier--he slept well in it, it contained him when I needed him to be contained, and made his seat more comfortable for him.

@BlueWolverine: I used my Diono Radian on the plane, though it was a little challenging to get it buckled in tight. When I pulled it tight, the buckle actually slipped into the seatbelt path (that tunnel in the back of the seat) and I had a really hard time unbuckling it (which was unfortunate when a flight attendant determined that we could not sit in the row behind the exit row after all and made us move before take off - all eyes were on me as I struggled for at least 5 minutes to get the freaking thing undone)! After that incident, I have just used a CARES harness. It is the only harness that is airline approved. It doesn't work as well at containing her as the carseat (there is no strap between the legs, so she can slither out the bottom), but if there was turbulence or something, it is better than just the lapbelt.

I used a Cosco Scenera on the plane - so thankful I had it since it was the only way he would sleep! (he was 16 months)

I bought a Cosco Scenera just for air travel and it works great. We lugged our recaro proride on this trip and it was awkward. next trip we'll go back to the cosco

I've flown (by myself!) multiple times with our Clek Foonf and successfully installed it rear facing. It fits in the bulkhead seats with room to spare. It's tight or braced against the seat in front of it (which it shouldn't be) depending on the model of plane. I'm sold on a seat being safer than not, but now that DD1 is over 2, I might consider FF or a harness for her. (She was 21 months on our last flight.)
