@bluestriped bee: My cord was thick! DH cut it but it was kind of a process. And we donated the cord blood so it was a little more complicated but I don't quite remember how.

I definitely think you or DH should do it instead of a medical person!

Ha. My DH originally said he won't do it until I said I'd do it instead! He cut the cord I've cut lots when I've delivered babies and it is easier than cutting a garden hose. But there is more resistance than people expect.

Dh said he didn't want to beforehand, but in the ment he changed his mind! I wouldn't want to, but only because I wouldn't want to put the baby down at that point, I'd rather hold her/him! If he didn't want to I was going to see if my mom did (she was my other support person)

In our birth class they had sample "cords" to cut and they are really tough!

I never thought about it. I was just all about the baby.

I was so out of it, I didn't even know my DH cut the cord (he wasn't going to, but ended up doing it when the time came) until an hour later lol. I don't think I could have managed to cut the cord myself.

It is pretty hard to cut too according to my DH. He first tried expecting it to just snip apart, but realized he'd need more force. His second attempt he cut it.

My DH said he didn't want to do it, but in the moment he did. I would do it if he didn't want to, but it's not something I'n especially excited about.

@bluestriped bee: I asked to see the placenta as well. Stuff like that doesn't make me squeamish and I thought it was really interesting. The doctor was really nice about it, and explained what everything was and how it worked. Both my mom and I were fascinated, while my husband and dad wanted nothing to do with it!

DH did it but he really didn't want to... We hadn't discussed it first since I went into labor at 34W. I didn't think I would want to see the placenta or use a mirror but I found the whole thing fascinating. I just looked in the mirror for a hot minute though and then I was good...

I'd rather snuggle my little one than worry about cutting such a tough cord!

This would not be my thing at all. And it obviously wasn't DH's either because he declined to do so with both of our kids!

nope! they immediately gave me the baby as well. then took the baby to cut the cord. they asked dh to cut it and he did. but all i could think about during the cord cutting was that i wanted to hold my baby again!!

I cut mine!! DH had ZERO interest. I didn't know it was an option with L, and then I was being sassy about it with the nurse when I was laboring with K, and she asked me if I wanted to do it then - I was stoked!! And yes, much more difficult than I imagined. It took several cuts...
But I'm a freak about that stuff. I told my Dr if I had to have a CSection that I wanted to watch them do it

@bluestriped bee: I found contractions and pushing to physically hard. It's like running a race. But, my labour and pushing was long and unsuccessful. Maybe you'll have a super quick one and be ready for anything after that. You can always decide then.

If DH doesn't want to, then I will!

I saw one mom do it, while the baby was on her chest. Obviously the doctor is there to help hold it out and keep the baby's legs out of the way.

I hear it described as cutting a gummy worm.

Fwiw my husband didn't have any interest in cutting the cord at first but somewhere along the line he changed his mind and now fully intends to do it. I wouldn't have minded if he decided not to but I don't think I'd ask to do it myself.
