After seeing all the sleep related threads, I was wondering whether there were any babies who didn't have absolutely horrible sleep. Just wondering, and kind of hoping for future LO2 not to be a terrible sleeper.

DD (8.5 months) has never had any sleep issues. Slept in her crib from night 1, easily goes down drowsy and self soothes, STTN from ~3 months (and only 1 wake up for a while before that). No sleep regressions, no need for white noise, naps great, sleeps on the go when needed.
Now I knock on wood for everything I just said.

No sleep issues with our DD. STTN very early on and has always gone down easily. She sleeps at least 13 hours every night, and on weekends we have to wake her up in the morning. We feel very fortunate.

I think mine were both good. Just the normal wake ups to eat and both STTN on their own.

Well, my son was a total nightmare about sleep the first 4 months of his life, but it was mostly because he had colic and reflux and was chronically sleep deprived since birth so he was just a terror. BUT once we sleep trained and put him on a strict sleep routine and schedule, he's been great. While we had some night wakings around the 9 month regression, it wasn't too bad. The only downsides are that I was mostly housebound when he was on 2-3 naps a day and he really doesn't sleep that well when we're away from home (although we work hard to replicate his sleep conditions). Thankfully he naps pretty well at daycare too, although he sleeps better/longer at home.
I'm really hoping DS2 due in May is a much easier going newborn!

We've had an easy time with crib transition and swaddle weaning and he also STTN since 8 weeks. We are coming up on four months though, so I do t want to jinx it!

I overall think DS was pretty good. It's definitely not the whole sleeping through the night early on. we use white noise because we live in an apartment complex and it helps with outside noise..but he can sleep without it. He has not had any sleep regressions and transitioned to the crib fairly easily. He wakes up once at night to eat and even though I've heard he doesn't need it this kid does. He never stays up though, he falls back asleep as soon as he drinks his bottle, so I'm up maybe 20 minutes. He has woken up more if his teeth bother him or he's not feeling good. But the kid is generally down from 8pm to 9am, so mama is happy.

DS hasn't been super easy but he's been a classic and by the book baby. He adjusts to things really fast too which is nice. He didn't STTN till 8 months but otherwise I think was pretty straight forward and I just stressed about his sleep too much because I was a first time mom.
Now as a toddler he's went from packnplay to floor bed with no problems. And pacifier weaned with no issues.

Nothing extraordinary for either kid so far. Ds isn't a good sleeper but he's a baby, it's nothing crazy. Dd could sleep 7-8 hours at 3 months old and went through good and bad periods after that. I did know someone whose son woke up every half hour or at least hour for the whole first year though!

LO 1 and LO 2 were smooth sleepers on their own at very young ages. No major regressions for either of them.
LO 3 is completely different in the sleep department. Not terrible but not great either!

So many babies who didn't have major issues. @2littlepumpkins: my DD woke up every 20 mins-hour the first 2 months, and it was torture! I can't imagine going through that the whole year!!

@Mrs.KMM: @autumnlove: @peaches1038: @delight: can you ladies please share what you think might have contributed to having such awesome sleepers? Just luck? Just chill babies? Or did you encourage good sleep in specific ways?

My LO had a rough couple months in the beginning because of reflux. Once we got him on meds for that he's been *ok*. Mostly waking up 1-2x a night to eat which I don't mind. Like pp, I've been told he doesn't need to eat but I've tried to let him work it out and most times he will not go back to sleep until I feed him. He definitely eats a full feed so I do think he needs it at this point. We did do some light sleep training for him to be able to put himself to sleep and now he's pro at that. (6.5 months old) Best thing we ever did. So I wouldn't say he was great but I've heard of worse!!

@Pumpkin Pie: I had to come see if you had a really good sleeper! I was really worried you were going to jinx yourself!
DD was a really great newborn sleeper, sleeping 4-5 hours for her first stretch of sleep by her third night. That all went to crap at 3 mo when I went back to work and she started reverse cycling. Then ear infections at 6 mo.

I'm pretty sure I'm doomed to have a second baby who never sleeps. My LO is almost 6 months, so her sleep could change and become awful. But so far, her nighttime sleep at least has been a dream. Not a great napper (but not terrible). But sleeping through the night since 5 weeks.

@SweetCaroline: I can't complain about night sleep now at 16 months, but you know that might go to crap any day.

Us. Beyond the normal sleep regressions and such, she basically STTN on her own from like 3 weeks old and dropped the night feelings early on. She doesn't get up crazy early. She doesn't wake up through the night unless she's sick or has a bad dream.
She hates naps and stopped totally before 2, and she sometimes is too busy partying to go to bed right away.... But other than that, yeah. We got pretty lucky.

Both of my girls have been really good sleepers. Lo1 started STTN at 6 weeks and Lo2 at 10 weeks. My 2.5 year old wakes up sometimes now, I think because I went back to work and she started daycare. We just pull her into our bed and then put her back in hers once she falls asleep. That's only occasionally. My 12 month old hasn't woken up in the middle of the night (before say 7am) in probably 8 months. She sleeps 14-15 hours a night. I'm really lucky, but I also did a lot of research on tips/tricks about sleep habits. My younger one doesn't nap that well, I would take an extra hour of nap time and take away an hour or two at night if I had the choice.

After sleep training at 5 or 6 months old (by that I mean about 10 min of crying for 2 nights) he started basically STTN and hasn't stopped now at 23 months, no noticeable regressions in that time, doesn't wake unless he's sick. Naps are generally good. We feel blessed and very scared about having another.

We've been very lucky. We've had our issues but overall sleep has not been bad. By 2 months, she was going to bed between 8-9 PM and sleeping until 6. Since about 3.5 months when we moved her to her crib she's slept 11-13 hours at night. Here and there we'll have some early morning wake ups. Did sleep training at 6 months to get her to go to sleep faster and to help with naps. Had a rough period with naps around then when we transitioned to the crib for naps. But most nights she just goes to sleep and stays asleep! I think she's an easier baby than most, but we also were very deliberate about a bedtime routine and not using sleep crutches like nursing to sleep, bouncing, rocking, etc after about 2 months. We also really tried to avoid feeding overnight once it was clear she didn't need it- I don't remember exactly when but it was definitely by 2 months. We would only feed if it other approaches wouldn't work.

Both of my girls have been amazing sleepers from the very start, especially DD1. She slept 4 and 5 hour stretches as a newborn and was 12 hrs straight overnight by 2.5 months old, despite being EBF. Never had any sleep regressions either.
DD2 wasn't quite as amazing on the sleep front, but still pretty darn good comparatively. She kept one wake up a night until about eight months, but that would be one wake up in a 13 hr stretch so I really couldn't complain. She did have some minor regressions here and there but nothing too bad. We definitely have been lucky so far and I'm hoping LO3 is just as good of a sleeper!
ETA: we never did any kind of sleep training and both girls slept in our room (not our bed!) until 7 and 8 months of age respectively.

@Orchid: I do think that some kids just like their sleep. We could tell early on that DD was a good sleeper. I was strict on routines but not to the point on missing out on things. We would bring a pack and play and let her nap at friends or grandma's house so she got used to sleeping in different places. We set up a sleep routine early on. We still read the going to bed book last every night. She has a sleep machine and a sleep sack and a fsvourite blankie that she only uses in her crib. I also never had her sleep on me or with me, it was always in her own space. I did do cry it out around 5 months when she started waking up at 1:30am but that only lasted a few days. I breastfed her to sleep until 5 months then stopped that so she could learn to fall asleep on her own and we didn't have difficulty with that. I went back to work at 7 months and DH was home with her so I wanted to eliminate Nursing to sleep before I transitioned back. I don't know if any of these things helped her to be a good sleeper. She also naps well. I've actually asked the doctor before about her sleeping because I thought she slept too much. Weekdays are different because she has to get up for day care, but on weekends she sleeps 7pm-9am when we wake her and has a 2-3 hour nap. Every kid is different. I'm prepared to have a different scenario with #2 if we ever get there.

Both ds1 and ds2 have been high needs sleepers that have never given us a hard time w sleep. Normal newborn sleep and sporadic longer stretches at night. By 11 weeks both sttn on their own and with ds2 we skipped witching hours entirely and only had one night of random wakes at four months. I ebf and nurse both babies to sleep at bedtime but they never have any issues going to bed awake or drowsy either.
Ds1 was a good sleeper unless he was sick or teething. Ds2 is just a super easy baby, he makes ds1 look like he was fussy even though he was easy for us he first time around!
Eta: ds1 was a chronic 40 min cat Napper for a few months
We constantly remind ourselves that we hit the baby sleep jackpot. 2x.

Lo was a phenomenal, no issue sleeper until 2.5ish. Since then she's been more difficult to get to sleep and to stay in bed. She still wants/needs a full night of sleep but she's definitely exerting her power by attempting to control her sleep these days. Getting a little better closer to 3!
