Initially I voted go for it, but I read the statement from Apple and changed my mind, I think the givernment is taking it too far. https://www.apple.com/customer-letter/

Wow, I really love that letter... Makes it very easy to understand. And after reading it, I vote no as well. I literally have chills thinking about the implications this would have.

I may be a bit of a cynic (and a die hard andriod user, haha) but I feel like that letter is a bit of a PR stunt. If apple can demonstrate how seriously they take their customers privacy they looks really good on them (and its working brilliantly). Not saying the government didnt ask them for backdoor access but at this point I'm pretty sure every tech company has been asked to do the same by now. Apple is just the biggest player and one of the few who can openly oppose the government.

I think it's ridiculous and I'm sorry but the attitude people have that if you have nothing to hide you shouldn't care is just not acceptable to me. Just because a person has nothing to hide doesn't mean they don't deserve a right to privacy!

@lemondrop: you may have more than you think. If you ever checked a bank balance or credit card statement that info could be made available. Or if you store passwords on your phone, any account could be broken into.

I agree with Apple. I work in Internet security and this just goes so beyond the pale.

I think the government has already proven themselves untrustworthy with technology and our private information. I stand with Apple here.

I don't usually get fired up about privacy issues, but this one riles me up. Given that this is an election year, I think the is even more important as the next administration could have a very different understanding of what best protects "national security."

I don't quite care about my privacy when there's a national security issue. But I understand to an extent Apple's position. I was hoping there would just be some hacker who could do it and of course there is one willing!

From an interview I heard this week, it seems to be more than Apple just "hacking" into the terrorists' phones. As I understand it, what the court wants from Apple is essentially to design technology with backdoor access for the government's use. The current phone in question doesnt have this technology, so Apple would have to create it for the government.

I think it's wrong and the court is wrong to demand this. If Apple was asked to simply give access to information on ONE particular phone of a PROVEN terrorist/criminal, I'd be more inclined to support the court, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

@psw27: Like the poster above said, it's more than just asking Apple to hack this one phone. The FBI has requested they develop software that will give the government "backdoor" access to iPhones.
