@AmeliaBedilia: congratulations! That's great news! Does the new job put a kink in your TTC plans at all? (I am also looking to change jobs and TTC is a worry.)

I have never been more confused in my life..... Have any of you ever had a positive OPK then a drastic "negative" (faint) later in the day??

    PS @AmeliaBedilia: congrats!

  9. septca

    GOLD / pomegranate / 3688 posts

@Kelli_Deluxe: happens to me all the time, which is why I only test with FMU. I drink a ton if water throughout the day and can never get a + OPK except with morning u.

  10. Kelli_Deluxe

    apricot / 288 posts

@septca: So do you go off your FMU results? I always thought you weren't supposed to do it first thing, so I do it on my 2nd bathroom trip. But now I just don't know which test to believe

  11. sandy

    cantaloupe / 6687 posts

@septca: I used FMU too with my digital OPKs. The instructions said it was ok as long as you are consistent

  12. littlek

    GOLD / squash / 13576 posts

@Kelli_Deluxe: I used FMU as well because I drink so much water.

  13. septca

    GOLD / pomegranate / 3688 posts

@Kelli_Deluxe: yep. I only test with FMU, so I go off of that. BUT, I have to therefore assume that I'm catching my surge a day "late" and usually have to manually set my O day in FF - I stopped temping once I realized I always O on CD 17/18 so FF goes off of my opk results and FF assumes you test in the afternoon/evening. Since I can also (usually) feel O, it hasn't been a problem for me.

Thanks everyone, though nothing is official yet. They're emailing me the formal offer later this week, but I know the nuts and bolts.

As for TTC- we are going to continue. I will read the contract on how they deal with maternity leave, but I have aflac that is portable as long as I continue to pay my premium.

I put a hold on job searching last year while ttcing and I totally regret it. This year I said no holding back anymore, and I'm glad I made that decision. My job is way better now for me mentally and that will help with ttc.

@sandy: @littlek: @septca: So should I assume that was a positive? It was at the same time I normally test every OPK, but was technically still FMU since I hadn't had anything to drink for a few hours. This is early in my cycle for me and I'm just so thrown off.

I guess I could bd tonight, test again in the morning then go from there re: whether or not I need to get in for an iui

@sarahnicole218: ok I am ridiculously far behind on this thread but wanted to answer your question! I have had an ok time on metformin. the most common side effects are GI-related, which I didn't get but are apparently kind of icky. I also haven't found it to help with weight loss - maybe those go together? what I have struggled with is vision changes, which is not super common but does happen. I don't wear glasses but in the few hours after taking it (I take extended release so all at dinner) it's pretty hard for me to focus, especially far away. luckily taking it at night, it is usually better by morning, and I think it's getting better over time (it is supposed to). not to scare you because I think it's uncommon! I get vision effects from clomid too. I can only take 100mg clomid at night for a similar reason. I think I'm just weird

    @littlek: sorry about the spotting.

you can add me to the IUI list next time it goes up. this is #3 for us . . . third time's the charm, right???

sorry to be MIA from the board, but we have 2-3 houses we really like so hoping we can actually decide on an offer tomorrow and maybe get it accepted while we are here! yay!

I keep telling myself I can only expect one good (big) thing per month. if we get a house (at least an accepted offer) I can't complain if I get a BFN. we'll see if I can stick to that logic. I'm totally symptom spotting . . . 6dpo and I've had tons of cramps and CM (though I think it might be progesterone supplements causing them).

@littlek: boo spotting! I started today too, but with my bfn, I kind of figured. AF should be in full force tomorrow for me! I'm still going to cross my fingers that your spotting is IB, hugs my friend!

@bhbee: vision issues? That is weird! Lol. I was telling my friend how Met might help with weight loss, and I said it's probably from all the diarrhea and vomiting...hahaha

@littlek: sorry to hear about the spotting. A short lp is just a real kick in the teeth when ttc!

@LindsayInNY: I've been here for just over 2 years now. It took a while for me to adjust, and I definitely miss things from home, but it's been a FABULOUS adventure. It's well worth coming over for a visit -- though I would definitely recommend trying to get outside of London while you're here too. There are some amazing things to see just a short bus or train ride away. And if you've got the time, Paris is just an hour or two on the Eurostar, so you could do a night or two there as well.

@littlek: Do you spot regularly? I spot literally every cycle and often start spotting only a few days after O. It always feels like a kick in the teeth, but I'm curious to find out whether or not it's actually a death knell to your baby chances that month. It seems SO difficult to find information on spotting that isn't either terrifying or overly generic.

  27. littlek

    GOLD / squash / 13576 posts

I was expecting full AF but still very light spotting. I'm not sad because I'd rather AF show Friday so my CD3 monitoring will be on Monday at the center near me.

  28. Miss Sarah

    persimmon / 1259 posts

@littlek: Fx AF holds off until tomorrow, at least the LP would be a better length too! My CD3 monitoring fell on a Sunday, but the doc was OK with a CD4 appt. I'm still just barely spotting today as well, so we'll probably be CD1 twins! You've got a more excited plan for this next month than me, and I'm hoping the Clomid + IUI is exactly what you need and hopefully I'll be following right behind you in June!

  29. Miss Sarah

    persimmon / 1259 posts

OK, CD1 for me today, AF came in with a vengeance right after I commented that I was still spotting. Officially on to NTNP...scared, excited, and really nervous about letting go of the control. Also, I'll start my metformin today. It's a new day!

  30. septca

    GOLD / pomegranate / 3688 posts

@RonniLeigh: According to my doctor (who is a gyn pelvic pain specialist), spotting before AF starts is not "normal" - she says AF should start with full flow. But she is also quick to say that spotting before AF can be caused by any number of things, most of which are pretty minor and easily fixed (like progesterone imbalance). Some are more concerning, like endometriosis (my situation), but the more major things come with other symptoms in addition to spotting before AF.

I have had spotting at least 2-3 days before AF every cycle since I went off BCP except the cycle I got my BFP. (So it is very possible to get KU if you spot.) Interestingly, I never spotted before I was on BCP (as a teenager) or on BCP... but my endo was very different when I was a teenager than it is now, so perhaps that explains it.

It sounds like most (if not all) of you have had CD21/7DPO testing. How did you bring this up to your doctor? Should I just say that my LP is short(ish) w/ spotting and that I'd like to get my progesterone levels checked? Or am I going about this the wrong way? Also, is CD3 testing related to 7DPO testing? I mean, do I need to have both done the same cycle?

    So many questions!

  32. septca

    GOLD / pomegranate / 3688 posts

@doxielove: I only had CD21 testing, not CD3. My understanding (and this could be totally wrong because the person who did my testing was an idiot), is that CD3 mainly tests estrogen and CD21 mainly tests progesterone. I was worried about my P levels because I was spotting before AF and having really light periods. And not getting KU. I just asked for it. The nurse practitioner I was seeing fought back, but ultimately gave me orders for the test.

  33. littlek

    GOLD / squash / 13576 posts

@doxielove: my dr suggested this testing after I had a super short cycle.

  34. RonniLeigh

    coffee bean / 46 posts

@septca: Thanks for the information, Septca! I never felt like it was normal myself, though I've read in various places that it can be normal for some people. I suppose it's different depending on who you talk to or what sources you use. Either way, mine definitely CAN'T be normal given how long I spot for and the fact that I do so consistently. That being said, I had a transvaginal and abdominal ultrasound done in February, and the doctor didn't seem to indicate that there was any sign of endometriosis, cysts, or polyps. My progesterone blood tests all came back normal as well, so I'm unsure what it could be or how to pursue the matter further. Do you have any suggestions to that end? Should I just continue to force the issue?

@doxielove: Definitely speak to your doctor. There's nothing at all wrong with you being aware of your own body, and if you've got a good doctor, they should listen to your concerns and try to help you find answers. If you have a 7 day LP, then you definitely have a short LP since it's supposed to be ideally between 12 and 14 days. The doctor will be able to tell you when you should do the blood tests. I think you can do them both in the same cycle, but I didn't because I happened to be travelling when my CD3 blood test was scheduled, and then the next time CD3 was on a Sunday so my blood tests were a couple of months apart.

I basically just approached my doctor and said, "My husband and I have been trying for a baby for a while, and I'm worried about my fertility because..." then gave the reasons I currently had. She immediately started scheduling tests for me to begin checking the basics.

    GOLD / pomegranate / 3688 posts

@RonniLeigh: I don't have a good answer for you. For me, there was an explanation. But I know a lot of people who spot and just shrug it off because they don't seem to have any other issues. I am not sure what your path is - but if you were to go to an RE, I would absolutely press for answers/tests.

@septca: My spotting situation is the same. Never happened pre-BC, happened since starting TTC yet I managed the chemical pregnancy. P levels came back normal but without progesterone supplements, I spot. No clue why so hopefully the RE can provide some answers? (RonnieLeigh:)

  37. doxielove

    persimmon / 1388 posts

    @RonniLeigh: I don't have a 7 day LP, I was saying it's a 7dpo test.

Thanks ladies. Now I just have to decide if I should call now to try to get this scheduled, or just wait until my hsg in May to bring this up :-\

@littlek: FX that everything works out perfectly with your IUI...I'm so excited for you!

@sarahnicole218: great attitude - hope the "break" from actively TTC is just what you and your DH need. And I hope your side effects aren't too crazy!

@RonniLeigh: spotting right after O seems super early! I would talk to your doc about it. I started spotting after my cycles returned after having LO. Mine would start 4-3 days before AF and wouldn't necessarily be all day but random spotting throughout the day and sometimes no spotting but then it would return. It didn't turn out to be an issue for me - CD21 labs came back fine and I got my BFP after 8/9 cycles of trying

@doxielove: I went to see my OB-gyn about bc we has been trying for 6 months and I was turning 35 in a few weeks. We just talked about my cycle and what I had been doing to try and get pregnant - OPKs. I think the first step in testing is the basic CD 3 and CD 21 blood work. One is supposed to show whether you have a good supply of eggs (low number is good) and the other is to show whether you ovulated

    here's my update:

Started spotting last night around 8 p.m., stopped shortly therafter, so far no more spotting. AF normally starts within 12 hours of initial spotting. WTH body. We had our injections class today and discussed the IUI procedure. Just in a waiting pattern till AF shows up and I can go in for CD3 monitoring.
