We're looking to move out of our noisy apt. in Midtown in January when our lease is up for a quiet, family-friendly building.
In addition to any building. recommendations, I'm looking for any housing sites and HONEST NYC brokers recommendations.

every broker i've used has sucked. i usually did all the work by myself, and then they ended up with the commission. i scoured real estate sites like corcoran, city realty, etc. and found the listings i wanted, then contacted the listing broker. you'd think there'd be better brokers in a place like ny, but my past three experiences tell me otherwise!
Sorry I'm not much help! I'm not a big fan of brokers but we've had to go through them to get our past 3 apartments.

Call Brusco on the Upper West Side. I found my best apartment through them. It's a crapshoot with them, but they have some good buildings.

I did my own research and avoided a broker when we moved into midtown this past April. I love our building - it is super family friendly. There are studios, 1 bedrooms, 2 bedrooms and 3 bedrooms in the building. Full time doorman, private balconys, common roof deck, etc. Let me know if you want more information. We are midtown west (between broadway and 8th).

i dislike brokers. especially ones in ny! why are they charging the RENTERS the fees? they should be charging the landlords!
we've used padmappers.com, which is great. it shows you all the apartments available from different sites.

@Eupenmalmody, I'd love the name of the building if you don't mind. Our lease is over in January and our place has been a nightmare due to noisy neighbors.

I would suggest the Riverside BLVD/West End area in the 60s and 70s.... tons of playgrounds, preschools, and buildings with playrooms. Some building suggestions: Archstone Apts, Trump Place, The Ashley, Rushmore, Aldyn, The Avery, West End Towers, and Lincoln Towers. It's very quiet compared to the rest of town because it's way out by the Hudson.
