Here, there def not. i didnt even know people went all out for first birthday parties (money wise, tons of guests, professional photographers) until i found hellobee! there pretty lowkey where i live. not sure what were gonna do for my lo's first brithday yet but i do like planning his party in my head. I think we will keep it simple but i like the thought of alot of diy unique touches, that i think we will do.
How about you, in your town is it normal to go all out for a first birthday party?

I feel like everyone plans big, elaborate themed parties (all my cousins and fb friends, anyway), and I totally don't see us doing that for our kids. Am I a grinch? Maybe. But I can't imagine dozens of people really caring about my kid's first birthday!

Not really, most of the people I know had pretty casual first birthdays. A few had bigger parties but they weren't themed or anything.

Nope. I mean we have parties, but not with hundreds of people. It's always at the person's house with close friends and family.

Nope, I've never been to a Pintrest/baby blog type party. Simple family affairs with a few friends and cake & gifts!

I haven't been to anything as fancy as what I've seen online, but first birthdays are pretty big in Korean culture so people do tend to spend a bit of $$.

Nope. Most first birthdays here are very casual. We didn't even have a first birthday party for DD (and probably won't for DS either!).

no way!!! Hellobee was where I saw that people spent tons of $$ on parties. I definitely want to do a really special party. Since we live in an apt, I need to rent a venue anyway so why not just make it a nice, big celebration! I'm doing a budget party though.

yup. most of the parties we've been to have rented out a venue like a kiddie gym (which i know goes for 1k+).

Yes because a lot of my friends are Korean, and 1st birthdays are a BIG DEAL in Korean culture!

Like some of you ladies have said, they're "big" but not these major wedding-esque events that you see on Pinterest/HB. We won't be having anything like that for C's bday. Food and beverage from Costco, and favors/decorations from Oriental Trading, with the location being our backyard sounds about right
