I tend to think that girls are easier especially when they're little, going by what Charlie's friends are like. The girls are so much calmer, listen better, do better in school, etc.
It might all change when they're teenagers, but for now I think girls are easier...

Girls. DD is the only girl in our mommy group and none of the boys listen and they are all over the place!!

My DD is not easier... She is more emotional and dramatic and she's only 5... However my DS is much more physical and draining to take care of say on the playground, whereas DD has always been really obedient, good listener, focused.

All my nieces have been easier than my nephews to take care of. My baby girl is on the calm side also but it's too soon to tell. I'll update this thread a year from now. LOL

I have always heard girls are easier when they are young and hell as teens and the opposite is true for boys. They are difficult as little kids and alot more chill in their teens. I can kinda see where that might come from.

I've always felt it's much harder to raise a well rounded *man* in today's world than a well rounded woman so for me, boys are harder.

I don't think either is easier. I suppose @runsyellowlites has a point, but at the same time men are still "ahead" of women in many respects.
I think with either, you just do your best and it will probably feel consuming either way!

As babies, DS was the easier one. He is super chill, easygoing, and always happy.
We will see how they compare when he enters toddlerhood though. I think DD has been a fantastic toddler so far. She's not violent, she's calm and focused, and she's so affectionate and sweet. Loving her toddler years even though her baby years were a bit of a challenge.
I'm not sure what to think about the teenage years - I can see both sexes being difficult in different ways.

My brother has a boy 6 months older than my daughter. He met her for the first time a couple months ago and was surprised at how mellow she was compared to his son. I think girls may be easier right now...

I think girls are easier as toddlers...not that I have one, but my boy experience leads me to believe it....oy. But I would much rather have a teenage boy than teenage girl - that drama can be just plain daunting.

I think it varies. And as the mom to two girls, I can say that one girl can be dramatically "easier" than the next one. Ellie never ripped books, or colored on walls, or climbed things, and Lorelei is just... wild. So I have an "easy" girl and a "hard" girl I guess.

I think it depends on the kid, not the gender.
I have two nephews. The older nephew is 8 and has been a dream since birth. The 4-year-old is an absolute terror.
In my family, I was the problem child and my brother was the easy one. I think individual personalities play in more than anything else.
As far as worrying, I'd take boys over girls any day. With boys you worry about one penis. With girls you have to worry about all the penises.

@T-Mom: 5 is awful! they have tantrums like they did between 14-20 months, only they're now HUGE and strong. i know a pedi that refers to them as the 'f'ing fives'. 6 is usually much better
i think they're just different. they each have their own challenges

With girls you have to worry about all the penises.' i'm dying! sadly though, i hear more and more about boys that have been victimized, and it is so much easier to think you don't need to worry with boys. i've heard so many stories (from now grown men) about being young boys victimized by young teenage girls who were supposed to be watching them. the girls have learned all these things about sexuality and want to try them out with someone that doesn't intimidate them and there is an assumption in our society that boys always want it, even when they aren't old enough to have any idea what they're being asked to do. people never think the 13 year old girl next door could take advantage of a little boy, they worry about her being victimized, but it happens, and it's so rarely reported.

I think age determines this. My mom would say, after raising 6 children (half girls/half boys) that girls are way more difficult mostly because of the teen/young adult years. Boys are difficult in different ways. And it depends on the child too. If I had a boy who was aggressive to the point that he had hurt me and/or other kids, I would view that as difficult because I couldn't control it or even help him. I know a teen boy who had anger issues because of his dad leaving and took it out on his mother, she was helpless to him.
But as a teen girl I was difficult emotionally, I dealt with depression and deeper things for years that affected me and my relationship with my parents.
I'm not sure I could say one is easier than the other.

@mrs. bird: omg.. F'ing 5's? I'm so relieved to hear that it's a "thing" rather than just my DD!! My DH has wondered if she is bipolar but I told him I think it's just another developmental stage..I was hoping so, anyway... Seriously I always say she's 5 going on 15...

@T-Mom: haha, nope, it's not just her! it's like the most outrageous case of PMS in the world. scary stuff. i have loved all of my nanny kids dearly (and i've had many!), but i always dread certain stages because you know they have to go through them and it will pass, but it SUCKS while you're in it. oddly enough, i love two year olds and don't understand 'the terrible twos', three on the other hand can be wild! but six will seem like a dream compared to five, she'll be likable again (they're always lovable, likable comes and goes, lol)

Boys are super physical and high energy it seems. A high school friend of mine with two girls and a boy said that her 11 and 10 year old girls are crazy emotional at that age and have always been harder that way compared to her 3 year old boy who tries to play soccer with his older sisters.

i only have a girl but...
according to my mother.. my brother was so much more calm than me even as a baby (and def as a teenager).
