DS is 3 months old now. And I'm wondering if exersaucers are a must have? I know using moderately is key with these and they're aren't meant to be baby sitters. But can I get away with out buying one of these contraptions? I feel like they take up so much space and are so ugly. What are your thoughts? Can't live with out it?

I don't think you need one by any means, but LO loves her jumperoo. I say, if you don't want one, there's no need for one!

I'm paying attention because we just saw these at BRU and hoped to god we won't need to buy one. They are so bulky!!! We're hoping to be minimalist when it comes to baby gear...

You don't need most baby gear. It's more about what you want for your LO. I will say that we did get a 4 in 1 type of one from CL and our LO loved it. It was big and bulky, but because we spent so little on it we didn't feel bad about reselling it.

I don't know if I would say need but they are really convenient. We weren't planning to get one but LO loved the one at daycare and we found a really nice FP jumperoo at a thrift store for $30 so we got it. It was really nice for times when I was home alone and needed to do something like cook or dry my hair and the jumper could keep LO entertained for 10-15 minutes. We ended up reselling ours on craigslist when she grew out of it and got our money back. I think we had it from about 5/6 months until 11/12?

it's more of a place to put baby when I need my hands free (like going to the bathroom or doing a load of dishes). I bought mine used and only have a swing & the exersaucer.

You dont NEED one but I'm very glad we had one. I'm a sahm so being home with a baby all day it was nice to have a place to put her down for 20 minutes where she was happy and entertained and I could eat a snack, check my email, just sit for a second. She really didn't use it long but it was still so worth it. And in the end los happiness and my sanity win in priority over big ugly baby gear.

We have exersaucer and jumperoo and LO LOVE LOVES them! He loves to bounce. If we didn't have the jumperoo, I would have to hold him while he jumps, which gets exhausting.

We didn't have one with Toddler Girl (but did have a little doorway jolly jumper) and was totally fine. I got one the second time around, with two little ones I appreciated having something to keep her occupied.

@Boogs: That's a good idea to buy one used.
I can definitely see how it would be a useful place to set him while I get something done really quick. Do some of them fold up?

@mrskc: My jumperoo comes apart, but it doesn't fold for day in and day out storage. If that makes sense.

We had one, it was fine, but it wasn't required at all.

Our lo lines hoa exersauser but only lasts maybe 15 min before he Gets restless in it.....not necessary but nice to have. Can u borrow from a friend that's what we did.

Our doctor is kind of extreme but she recommended against it. Something about not wanting the baby to get used to standing upright non-organically? Anyway we didn't get one and it was fine. They do look kinda fun, though!

@mrskc: Yeah there are some really great priced used ones, too. Mine did technically fold up a bit, we could for it behind the couch if we wanted.

It's not a necessity but DD loves hers! It occupies her while I am cooking dinner.

We also bought our FP Jumperoo at a thrift store, used it from 4-about 8 months or so. We sold it on CL for about $10 more than we originally paid, this after taking apart and extensively cleaning! It was primarily for much needed hands free/worry free time. We bought the Bright Starts Around We Go for my parents house, she still loves the table at 15 months.

We needed an exersaucer. Or else I could only take showers at night, which is fine but sometimes it doesn't work out that way. I use it for when I need to clean and I can't set her down on the floor, or while I'm making dinner. Definitely a must for us.

not a necessity, but my kids loved it. and even at 9.5 months, i still put them in it when i need to get things done and i don't want them crawling around... but i got mine for free since i'm borrowing my bro's.... i think i would have bought one though. we have the rainforest jumperoo - got excellent reviews and really, we love it.

We don't have one and don't need one; but LO is very good about entertaining herself. I can put her down with a couple books and a couple of her favorite toys and she's cool to chill by herself for a bit (sometimes only 10 minutes, often longer).

We have one of those little doorway jumpers and all my kids have LOVED it! In fact after I had the twins I bought another one so they could both be jumping at the same time. I also liked that I could take it down and store it easily because its so small. Its definitely not a necessity, but I would buy it again in a heartbeat!

we just got a doorway jumper for olive so she can practice standing. it's great! we had the big popular fisher price jumperoo but sold it -- that thing was a monster. the doorway jumper takes up so little space!
charlie loved the exersaucer. it was awesome to have even if it did have a short life. i'm glad we had one.

LO can sit in his exersaucer for 40 mins straight, it's not an item you need but it's nice to have. Too bad it's such a freaken eyesore.

I used a doorway jumper when I needed a spot to put X while I showered. Once we moved, it became easy to get into cupboards, the toilet bowl brush, etc, so we haven't used it in a while (Toddler X is now 14.5 months). Now, I either bring him in the shower with me or pull his high chair (it's on wheels) into the bathroom-- he eats breakfast while I shower. We never had an Exersaucer or Jumperoo, and he has used the doorway jumper 25 times, maybe? So, I don't think it's necessary. Plus, the doorway jumpers take way less space.

I voted other because we had one and we NEVER used it. Like probably for a total of 40 minutes total the entire time it was around.

My LO loved both his exersaucer and jumperoo but for a very short amount of time (1.5-2 months). It's nice to be able to put them somewhere where they can entertain themselves. I would recommend buying them used if you can! I got both for $60 total.
