I am looking around for shoes for LO for this fall and winter. So far I have a pair of athletic shoes and I ordered her a pair of off brand Ugg type boots. I'm thinking she needs a casual pair of shoes and possibly a casual boot that's more for fall and not winter, like riding boots...but is that too much? That just seems like a lot of shoes for one kid, but with the weather changes and different types of outfits it almost seems necessary?

I think for school aged kiddos, at a minimum, a pair of sturdy shoes (like athletic or rubber soled shoes for running around the playground) and a pair of boots for rainy and colder weather (for going on field trips to the farm/pumpkin patch)
Extra shoes - another pair of rubber soled shoes for dressier outfits, another pair of boots for dressier outfits. And if weather is an issue snow boots if needed

I get my son two pairs of shoes for school, just in case one is dirty/wet, we always have a second pair at the ready.
Aside from snow and rain boots, I don't buy other kinds of shoes, but I suppose that is largely because I also don't buy any fancier/dressier clothing. There are times I wish he had a loafer or something, maybe when he gets older. I kind of view it like my husband, who has a black pair, a dress pair, leather sneakers and athletic sneakers. Women and girls need more, I think!!!

I have boys so I don't really buy them anything fancy. They both have a pair of sneakers and a pair of snow boots. I've done warm/non-snow boots in the paste (like Uggs) and they are super cute, but didn't get a lot of wear from my kids.

I didn't answer in that other thread because I feel like our shoe needs may be different.
Every fall/winter we need:
Snow boots
Rain boots
Indoor shoes for school (easy on off)
Athletic sneakers
Casual sneakers
FlatsI usually add a pair of mary Jane sneakers and casual boots.
6-8 pairs minimum. it feels excessive.

I'm trying to figure this out too. Girls definitely need more than boys! I think in your case the Ugg type shoes could replace riding boots though.
I'm thinking for my toddler:
Casual sturdy Mary Janes (like stride rite)
Athletic sneakers
Rain/ winter boots (hoping I can get away with just one for both?)
"Fancy" dress shoes- Mary Janes but dressier, I don't mind going cheaper for theseI may also get casual boots for her but I did last year and she hardly wanted to wear them.

With a boy I feel like we need less shoes, but when I add them up it still feels like a lot.
Fall/winter:
Sneakers
Rain/slush/light snow boots (Boggs)
Snow bootsSummer
2 pairs of sneakers (one that's better for the sandy playground at daycare, one that's easier to get on/off for non daycare days)
Sandals
Water shoes (these live at daycare)I don't bother with dress shoes as we rarely need them. I do with there was a boys equivalent to Mary Janes though - something comfy and available with a sneaker sole, but still looks a little dressier.

DS - 2 pairs sneakers
1 snow bootsDD - 1 sneaker
1 fashion boot
1 snow bootDD isn't into mary janes or toms or anything else so we stick with the basics - if she was I would buy her 1 additional pair.
she loves sandals so she had lots in the summer!

Last fall/winter for DD1, we had sneakers, riding boots, and snow boots. That seemed like the bare minimum to me. There were definitely a couple times when I wished we regular rain boots, but I'll be honest we don't spend THAT much time outside playing in the cold rain. If it was warm-ish rain in the early fall, she just went barefoot or wore her Natives. And there were several instances when I wished she had something nicer/non-boot (e.g., Christmas party), but her boots were cute enough that it was ultimately fine.
This year we had to get some "inside shoes" to wear/leave at school, and I'll also get the rainboots and nicer shoes that I wished I had last year
So I'd say that probably 3 pairs for fall/winter is probably the minimum, but if you want to be a little more prepared, you'll need 5-6?

I like them to have play shoes, regular casual shoes and something a bit dressier for church/holidays. So at least 3 to 4 pairs. Which does seem like a lot. It gets so muddy on our property that we really need to separate play shoes if it's been raining.
