If the baby wakes up multiple times at night can you feed sometimes and not others (ie: feed late at night but not if they wake up relatively soon after going down) OR do you have to be consistant and either always go in to feed or always stay out and let them cry?
I'm concerned I'm confusing my 8 month old by changing it up based on the time of night.

The regular schedule for my LO (5 mo) is that he falls asleep between 7:30-8:00 and will wake up for a motn feed between 3:00-4:00. If he wakes up much earlier than that I can usually give him a pacifier and he'll go back to sleep. If he wakes up at 2:30 I'll just feed him. If the pacifier doesn't do the trick then I'll feed him. BUT, that rarely happens and usually only coincides with a growth spurt.
I would say try to be consistent with the feedings. Usually babies at that age don't need to feed as frequently at night and LO could be waking up because of the irregularity.

DD is almost 10 months and lately she's been having MOTN wakings mostly due to teething. She typically nurses right before bedtime but sometimes she won't settle right away so DH will bottle feed her after I put her down. (My supply has been changing a bit due to her intake of solids.) If she wakes up before 4am (which is her typical MOTN feeding) we will wait a little bit to see if she will fuss and fall back asleep. But with teething issues, we don't CIO with her and get her when she cries. We try to hear her out to see if she is truly crying or just fussing before we go to her. I hope that makes sense!
ETA: DD is LO #2. DS is LO #1, 2.5 y.o. and shares a room with DD. He is a pretty deep sleeper so we don't worry about him waking up when she makes sounds.

We just got rid of all feeds before midnight by letting her cry a bit then sending DH in to help her settle. It took 4 days but it stopped those early feeds. she still feeds around 1:30/2 and 5 (which is next on my list to get rid of). DD is 6 months.
