I just saw an article about a 31 year old man who was charged with statutory rape in my town. I clicked on it to see where he lives and he lives in my neighborhood. He was also charged with providing alcohol to minors. This guy just ruined my Friday. That makes 2 in that general area of our neighborhood. This news really, really bothers me.

We live in a city, so there are a bunch. None on our street, but within 2 blocks. We don't live in an area where you would (or I wouldn't at least!) let your kids run loose anyway & will move before any LOs would need to be outside. I'm more concerned with violence in our neighborhood. DH went to tell our neighbors to be quiet the other night & had a knife pulled on him, earlier this yr 2 blocks over 3 ppl got shot in their apartment & their baby was thrown in the middle of the street at night. So yes we need to move, but not just because of sex offenders, those are everywhere whether they've been convicted or not. So much sexual abuse goes unreported, a lack of convicted individuals doesn't do much to make me at ease.

There are a bunch in our town, yes. We'll be out of here before LO is 2 though, and it's not like I'm gonna let a baby stay outside alone, ever, so I'm not super worried.

There are 4 within a 1 mile radius of my house, eek! In a 3 mile radius there are TWENTY FOUR!
I'm looking at what they've done, and one of them has 9 counts of lewd acts with a minor. Victim's aged- 4-15 AH
One of them is on the registry for salutatory rape of a 16 year old when he was 17 and that makes me sad because i'm sure that was probably his girlfriend at the time.

@MrsTiz: the ones like that - 17 yo with a 16 yo - really make me sad, too. I think it's something that parents need to warn their children about when talking about sex with them.

@mediagirl: Agreed! I also don't see that as illegal, either. A 39 year old with a 16 year old = yuck. A 17 or 18 year old with a 16 year old? That's ..natural! That is their classmates whatever, they're basically the same age!

I don't know... we don't have access to the sex offender registry in Canada, although apparently the police can/will notify you if a RSO moves into your neighborhood.

I'm still creeping through it haha, there is a woman on mine! 39 year old with indecent liberties with a 13 year old. Ooh I know what website i'll be on all day!
And a 37 y.o with a 5 year old. That makes me siiicck

There isn't any in my neighborhood, but there are a couple with moderate risk factor is the two neighborhoods that border mine.

@ladyfingers: are you looking on the map view with the squares for each one? Where does it show the radius? I don't see it on mine 
when the map opens up, at the zoom it opens to as a default shows 232 offenders and 42 unmappable (I assume that means homeless, yes?)

@mrs. bird: I'm on my state's site. There's a search by neighborhood feature and it allows you to plug in what radius you want to search by. I did a list view, so it tells you how far away each one is.
Yeah, I think unmappable means either transient (homeless) or absconded (didn't register).

None in my neighborhood, and my town has a pretty strict ordinance against sex offenders - they can't be within 500 ft of a school/bus stop/day care/park/etc for more than 15 minutes. We live within 500 ft of a school, so we're good.

There is one who lives on our street. He is an older gentleman in his 80s or 90s. I forget what the charge was, but it was one of those things that didn't seem as concerning from years ago. They informed us of it when we put an offer in on our house. We have only ever seen the man once in the year and a half that we have lived at our house.

I live right in front of an elementary school so there shouldn't be. But our neighbor was one and was caught so he doesn't live there anymore.

Some areas have tons b/c they have to register where they work, too (think temp agencies) or prisons. (duh). There actually aren't any in my neighborhood.

Wow, there's one just down the street from us. Not in our development but like a few minutes walk right outside of our development. And across the street from the elementary school where our kids will go. And we live in a nice neighborhood. I guess you just never know...
