Are there certain topics, that you know will just not be productive for you? I have a couple that every time I click into, I just can't hold back, and it usually gets people mad at me, even if I didn't intend to make anyone upset.
I've just decided to not even read the posts underneath those topics. Am I alone?

I try to stay away from political debates just because I don't have the energy to type up my opinions and it just seems exhausting to follow all the back and forth.

I stay away from political stuff mostly because they are usually discussing US politics and as a Canadian I'm not always knowledgeable anyhow.

I try to stay away from anything religious in nature. If I see a thread that keeps going that seems controversial, I try to stay away from that as well. Those can get really heated and I would hate to accidentally offend anyone.

I am not much of a fashion guru so anything to do with style I suck at it. I love debateable topics, theres nothing wrong with speaking your pov!

Here on HB? I hide the sleep training board.. it's just easier for everyone that way. lol Otherwise I don't really avoid any.

@grizz: Yea, I sleep trained G when we was a babe but it's just not something I agree with anymore. Plus before I hid it I couldn't resist clicking the post. Now it's an "out of sight, out of mind" topic... except when there is overflow into the (baby/toddler) sleep boards. Doh. lol

The only thing I don't read is birth month boards, but even with those, I clicked on one accidentally and found it so interesting. I just don't have enough time to read every, everything.

@Mrs. Jacks: The birth month posts always get me too.... So overwhelming to try and keep up! I sometimes think about how there are lurkers that keep up with them. I couldn't even keep up with mine! lol

I make a point of avoiding Attachment Parenting posts/boards on every parenting group I belong to.
Edited to keep offending others to a minimum.

I ignore a lot of the parenting threads since I'm not really there yet and I don't know what a lot of it means (like-- I don't even understand what "sleep training" is! lol).
The political posts I should stay away from but I can't.
Probably the only ones I try really really hard to keep myself from posting on (with varying levels of success) are the pet ones (except of the oh-how-cute variety). I seem to get myself in trouble there because I get very pissed off when I feel like someone is treating their animal badly.

@grizz: @JessicaMcB: I think it is normal to feel judged by people with differing ideas. Like I have, on occasion, felt judgement from someone who does sleep training if the talk about teaching healthy sleep habits or self-soothing. But if I step back and think about it, it almost never was intended as a judgement. Usually it is just someone passionate about something that is working well for them or their family who wants to share that information/success with others. At the end of the day, I hope all parents feel secure enough in and passionate enough about their choices to engage in dialogue without needing to feel threatened. But sometimes it can just be best to share with like-minded people. I know I tend to make friends more easily with people who are similar to me.
Oh, and I was going to say I don't steer clear of anything in particular, but there are times I may not respond to something if I don't feel I can add anything useful.

Sleep Training - not currently doing it, and have no real plan to, so I don't feel I could add to the discussion in a productive way.
I don't actively avoid the month boards, but I also don't participate or keep up.
I actually enjoy the political/social issue threads. I'm confident in my beliefs and don't mind some friendly debate.

@Mrs. Twine: I agree that happens a lot in mommy communities. I personally have no problems with either the benign neglect or the AP communities (I don't identify with either) on a fundamental basis. Just not a fan of the black and white "this parenting is good, this parenting is bad" you can find in both groups.

I don't read the month due dates threads. I don't read most of the pp month threads either, apart from my month and the month before, so I know what is coming! 
Other than that pretty much everything except deals or where to buy threads as they are usually US specific so I can't help.

I don't get on the boards as often as a lot of people and often it's when I'm.bored at work so I gravitate towards WOHM posts. I don't avoid a ton but I only read things I can relate.to at that moment, otherwise I feel like I couldn't contribute anything productive. With that being said I love the responses I get from people who are showing support but.maybe don't have a new opinion or suggestion.
I also avoid anything that has a hint of drama. Save the drama FO yo mama. As I said, I have limited time on the boards and just want the goods...I don't want HB to become something negative in any way for me.

I stay away from most politics stuff too, just because I'm not knowledgeable about US politics as I feel I should be to participate, and as a Canadian, don't really have a dog in that fight. I can barely keep up with my own month thread, so I certainly don't seek out any others. And I probably wouldn't comment on threads about older kids with anything helpful either since I've only got 8 weeks experience with this mom thing. But I like to read them, so I don't totally stay away.

I usually don't read the due date/pp twins threads or other topics that don't apply to me like formula feeding. I read prettty much everything else, but usually don't comment on political or religious threads.

Threads about horrible things that have happened to babies/people. I'm too sensitive. I can't get those things out of my head and it is very upsetting. I avoid news stories like this, magazine articles etc. I don't avoid knowing those things- I get that leaving your baby in a car can kill them-- I just don't want to read horrible stories about them or see pictures (on the news).

There's so much on the boards to read! I don't hide any boards but I generally don't click on threads that I have no knowledge about or don't apply to my life, so TTC, infertility, sleep training, stay at home parents, pregnancy, and birth month. It's not because I'm not interested, but ain't nobody got time for that! I'd be spending my entire day on HB.

I don't subscribe to the breastfeeding boards, because they piss me off and make me sad at the same time. I also mostly stay away from most co-sleeping threads because it's best for all involved if I don't share my opinion on that subject. I also avoid AP threads in general. I read them, I just have nothing productive to add.
Bring on the religion and politics! Lol. I'm a liberal agnostic and always willing to argue it.

I don't read the monthly board posts. I should avoid the politics board because my views are unpopular on HB. I also don't like conflict, so I know if I post on politics boards, I will get attacked.

I also avoid most of the other due date boards, and usually ones about daycare/wohm issues, because I don't feel like I can relate.

It takes a lot to get me really fired up, so I don't really avoid anything, plus I feel like I learn a lot just from reading other poster's experiences.
I tend to ask a lot of questions about things I don't understand, so I always appreciate if someone takes the time to answer.

I don't mind the news/opinions threads, but it bothers me when I see people attacking other commenters and focusing largely on trying to "win" a debate. Haven't figured out how to manage it just yet, but just one or two people doing that can really ruin a discussion thread.
