I've written before about our struggles with our dog.
We've found a great trainer to work with us, and we are doing very intensive training - 4x/week for at least 6 weeks. She charges $72/session. I'll let you do the math because it still pains me to think about the total. We love our dog. She is like family. We know it would be very difficult to rehome her... But seriously, are we crazy for spending this kind of money on her???

A couple summers ago I spent thousands on my dog and had to apply special ointments and give her special baths ... 4 times a day and they took an hour and a half!

Nope, if you afford it and it is helping you are not nuts! It's hard to put a price on some things and I know others might disagree with your logic but if in the long term it is good for your family than you aren't crazy.

We love our dogs and they are part of our family. As long as we are able $ is not an issue to better life or health! Rehoming would most likely nvr be one of our options

As long as we won't be homeless or be able to put good on the able or afford basic things, we would! Our dog is our family!

My pets are my babies. If I can afford/find the money/make it work, I will do whatever i have to make their lives better. It's not crazy at all, they're family!

I just went back and read your original post to see what was going on... I can tell how much you love your dog and I think this is really important to you. If you can afford it, I think you should do it. It seems like it's either this or rehoming her, which you said would likely end badly? I am so sorry you're in the position at all! But no - definitely not crazy!

Nope. I spent that much in a one-shot deal when my cat got sick and now we maintain his health in 3 meds every day (one of which is not cheap). When I add up the total we will spend on him in his lifetime (well into the 5 figures) it seems a little crazy to me, but pets are family and it isn't putting us into the poor house to do it. I'd rather have him than the money.

By the way, part of our credit card debt is from taking care of our dog. She had chronic ear infections that led us to going to a pet dermatologist an hour out of town! We promised to care for her, so you gotta do what you gotta do.

Not crazy at all! Especially if you can afford it. I saw a guy at the vet who was going to have to either pay $3K for surgery or the dog would die in three days. He said"this is my rent money, but do the surgery." I don't advocate spending rent money, but damn that's

@Happygal: it seems to be primarily positive reinforcement and desensitization.We wouldn't (and haven't in the past) hesitate to spend this $$ if she was sick, so that's kind of how I see it. Mental health for my dog.

Not crazy. I've spent $2k when my cat was in the hospital and i spend $50/month for medicine for the other cat. They are family and i would do anything for them.

It sounds like a lot of money if you think of the total price, but I just spent $600 for a surgery for my cocker Spaniel to remove some of his eyelashes since they were irritating his eyes. A month after the surgery they are starting to grow back. Little annoyed we spent that much for something temporary. I thought it was permanent fix. Yeah, I think there was a misunderstanding in there. I love our vet but a bit annoyed. Although, maybe we were aware of the risks and maybe the DH forgot to tell me.
I love my two dogs and we do anything to keep them with us. If I had to get them trained like you, I wouldn't think of the whole cost, but the session or weekly cost. Like think of it as things of things you are giving up, like going out to dinner. Yeah, I agree with others that if you can afford it, go for it.
I just took a 6 week dog training class that was offered for free because we just adopted our second dog. Very eye opening on how to train your dog. Have you considered going to a class like this? I think it's once a week classes for 6 weeks. I think if I paid for it, it would have cost me $120 for the 6 classes. It can give you a good foundation on how to train your pet. If there are larger issues that require a lot of attention, then I can see why you are going with a more intensive training program.

@bluestriped bee: there are definitely larger issues, primarily fear aggression. We've been through some of the basic obedience classes already.
P.S. I'd be a little choked at the vet too!!!
