I am a baby wearing failure...
I could never get the K'tan to work for me. My Maya sling never feels right. My LOs despised the infant insert for the Ergo...I haven't tried it without the insert with my 7 week old yet.
I read the instructions and watch videos but I still suck at baby wearing.

Newborn in a ring sling = FAIL. I could not figure it out. It took some practice for me to get use to babywearing though.

Yeah, I only do it out of necessity when I have the baby and toddler. Not my thing.

Sort of, I like baby wearing but both LO and I get SO HOT that more often than not I reach for the stroller.

It wasn't love at first wear for LO, but she seems to like being worn now (she's 9 months). I hardly ever wear her around the house, but when we are out, I will wear her, or when she's in her stroller, sometimes she will fuss until I put her in her carrier after a while. I have a Beco Gemini.

pretty much! at least at first.
DS hated the Ergo with a passion, especially the infant insert but just hated facing in until he was big, really big and could sit up and turn himself around to look at things, arms out and over the top.
I did have some success with the Baby Bjorn when he was maybe 4-7 months old? He liked facing out and seeing everything, but it was pretty uncomfortable to wear.
He was also the baby that hated being swaddled..
ETA- I have to add, we use the Ergo ALL THE TIME now, I use it for quick trips where I don't want to bring the stroller out or if we're in a crowded place and I just don't want to have to hold onto him. It wasn't a total waste.

Yep, I suck at it despite trying the maya wrap and Bjorn. I bought a Moby wrap, didn't even wash it, and just sent it to an expecting friend. I've had some luck with the Bjorn, but want a Beco Gemini for the next one to baby wear way more than I have LO. He goes in the Bjorn when I want to make a coffee run or we head out to brunch up the street from us.

I'm so afraid of this! I WANT to be big into baby wearing, and DH does even more than me-- literally the only thing he cared about on our registry was the color of our Beco Gemini (we got the owls, fyi. It's cute but still manly enough 
So I really, really hope we all (me, DH, and baby) like it! I'll have a new Beco Gemini and K'Tan plus a loaned Moby so hopefully something will work!

@autumnlove: When lo was a newborn it just never felt right. Someone (experienced) did the moby for me and it was snug but just felt wrong for me. I used a sling every now and then and tried the ergo w/ insert. Both not so great! But the ergo at 6 months + is good!

@Foodnerd81: You never really know how the baby and you are going to handle it. Some women and babies are pros at it while other babies don't like it. I thought that I would be, but LO just didn't dig it. When he had trouble calming down, I would get him in the Bjorn and walk around the condo until he did.

@googly-eyes: Yes, I loved using the Ergo with LO when she was 5-6 months. I need to figure out these wraps and carriers so I can baby wear my 7 week old and use a stroller with my 17 month old!

I am good with the carriers that make it easy for you, like my Beco Gemini and my Tula Toddler carrier. My Moby and Maya sling were just weird and I hated the way they felt, could never get it quite right and LO hated them, too.

I wish I could hold a clinic here! It really helps to have someone with experience show you "live" (because an internet tutorial, while helpful, isn't able to watch you and help you trouble-shoot your own particular trouble areas), and I think it's also much better to be able to try several different things, because there are so many styles and materials that finding the right one for you and baby can make a big difference.
@AutumnLove; what are you looking to be able to do? Just carry baby when you're out and about, or do you need more versatility (like wearing for naps and doing chores, etc.)?

@AutumnLove; Yeah, it would work much better if we were closer... maybe we could skype it? If you're pretty new to things, I'm thinking some sort of wrap would feel more secure to you (though the downside is that there is more of a learning curve). Plus you would also have the versatility of doing many different carries depending on your/baby's needs.

moby was just too tedious, plus i dont think DS enjoys it much... got and returned the ergo because we never really used it much.
we have a podaegi from korea that we'll likely use as he gets older... thinking of maybe getting the beco for the front carry option...

Hated the Moby, love the Ergo! E loves to be worn, though, so I guess that's half the battle won.
I actually saw a lady the other day using an Ergo without the insert with her pretty small baby. The baby's legs were tucked in and kind of propped up on the waistband (so not completely splayed and out). They both seemed pretty comfy!

@autumnlove: you don't need to use an infant insert, you can roll up a receiving blanket to put under your baby to prop them up. Maybe your LO will like that more?

failed ring sling with both LO, used the Moby but hated it, some success with the pouch sling once LOs are older, both LO hated the infant insert of Ergo but do great without it

I worry about this too. I'd really like to babywear around the house from the beginning.
@Mrs. Twine: How do you feel about ring slings? I've been lusting after a Sakura Bloom for a while. On Saturday I'm going to go to a CD store that has slings too and try it out and have them help me with fit.

I failed at the ring sling but it was cheap and at that time I didn't know that made any difference. The Moby was an immediate success though and even now at a year old I still use it!

I've been looking into becoming a certified babywearing educator. I honestly don't know how I personally would be able to be a mom without it and it breaks my heart when people have issues :'(
If anyone has any questions I'd love to try and help as much as possible through pictures via the internet, lol. I'm still trying to organize my thoughts into a blog series on babywearing basics, but I have trouble not rambling lol.

@MrsCB: I know it wasn't directed at me, but I LOVE ring slings. When W was little it was my go to carrier (I started wearing him in one at 3 weeks old). Now that he's 23 pounds I have trouble wearing him in one for long periods of time if I can't sit down but I use it for quick ups and downs. There is ALWAYS a ring sling in my car.
We were at the doctor's office for 3 hours last week and he napped in the ring for an hour of it. We were there for a rash and they were able to look at it (on his legs) without waking him! (that's him passed out, lol)
Oh, and he's 14 months old now, if that makes a difference.

@Navy_Mommy: Thanks! It seems like the people like that like them LOVE them, and other people feel like they're not secure. I guess I'll have to try it out and see, especially before this baby belly gets much bigger.

@MrsCB: I can do jumping jacks with my son in the ring sling. As long as you get a good "seat" it's super secure. You just have to make sure some of the fabric is pulled up in between you and your baby.

My baby hates facing in. She won't tolerate the moby at all, the ergo is slightly better. How long before I can wear her facing out?? She's only 8 weeks so I figure it'll be a while.

@MrsCB; Navy_Mommy gave you some great answers. I do like ring slings, but I use mine more as back-up (like I would use it in a pinch, or if we're going to be doing some errands, but if I anticipate babywearing much that day or for a long time, I prefer my wraps). Sakura Bloom makes very nice ones, but make sure you like the fabric before you pull the trigger. I find some of their fabrics to be a little less practical (like the silk) and wouldn't want them for an every-day carrier. Glad to see you are able to try one-- I wish everyone had that option!

@sslm: That depends on who you talk to. Some people would say as soon as she has good neck control. I'm in the group that doesn't think wearing facing out is ever a good idea.
This article is could be argued to be biased since it was put together by Boba, a company that sells soft structured carriers that you CANNOT wear facing out. But my personal research has shown their third point to be the biggest issue; wearing a baby facing out "Places your baby in an arched or hollow back position which places pressure on the spine"

If your baby wants to be able to look around more I recommend a hip carry or when they get older a really high back carry. When I wear my son on my back our chins are almost level so he can see over my shoulder.
