I'm Jewish, so yes. But my minority status is cultural/religious, not appearance. It was super cool to visit Israel and not be a minority!

Not in my area!
But being Arab, yes I am a minority. Being Muslim...I am a minority here in the US but not in the world.

Yes, there are few Jews around here. I have Jewish friends in Ny and its weird to me that he whole school is off for Jewish holidays. I actually got punished for missing school because of a holiday. It ruined my perfect attendance, and even though I got a note from my Rabbi, they wouldn't let me go on the perfect attendance boat ride.
My mom of course pitched a fit so after that they changed the rules.

@artbee: that's crazy! I work in NJ and this next school year, since the jewish holidays are so early in the school year, they just pushed back the entire calendar so we don't start school till Sept. 9th!
Our school is definitely the kind that nothing is done for any religion unless it's done for all religions (holiday concerts, etc).

@mrsjyw: I'm caucasian, so in the greater scheme of things no.....but where I live is mainly South Asian, and any time I hang out with DHs friends or family, I'm the only white born-and-raised American in the room, so in my own life, I spend a lot of time as a cultural minority. This past weekend, I watched an entire movie (without subtitles) in a language I can't even understand, and that's not uncommon for us.
Funny.

@Anagram: jealous! My mom used to go in and talk about chanukah in my elementary school. She would bring food, we'd play dreidel, etc. If she didn't do that, there would only be Christmas. I'm not looking forward to lo having to go through that in school. She'll go to a Jewish preschool, but we'll probably put her in public school for everything else.

Yes, I am a minority.
@artbee: I grew up in a large Jewish community and was stunned by how backwards (trying to be polite) my new school was when my fam moved in HS. My AP history teacher required we highlight our books and would make a big deal about seeing that we were keeping up with our assigned reading. Often her teacher's pets would declare specific highlight colors for the class to use in honor of whatever was going on. During the holidays we were all going to use green and red (pink really) for Christmas. That was it. Just Christmas. So, I chimed in Blue for Hanukkah. The look on their faces was priceless. Then one of my classmates, trying to be a smartass, directed Kwanzaa squarely at me. Of course no one knew a color to use. So I picked up the banner again and said Orange because of the ubiquitous kente cloth.
