DH & I decided to forego gifts and focus on DS' gifts and stuff for the house. We've just finished some major house renovations and bought an investment property, so we're looking to scale back our spending for a while!

Nope! We've opted to sponsor a local family instead.

Most likely. I've been hinting big time for a command start for my vehicle. I'm stumped for him, though. All he wants is accessories for his truck, but that's not exactly something I can just go out and buy because he's so specific about those kinds of things. Ugh.

Just a simple gift exchange: coffee mugs! We found that we have quite a mug collection so we decided to turn it into an ongoing thing. So for Christmas, we have to by each other a new mug of significance.
We also just started a bathroom reno and will be purchasing a double stroller in the near future AND he's still on the hunt for a push present for me (haha!) so we're also scaling back.

We're doing the Something You Want/Need/to Wear/to Read. And setting a total spending limit.

Hmm, maybe. He didn't get a birthday present or cake even because his grandfather passed away right before his birthday, so we didn't celebrate. I'm thinking that I'll definitely give him something.
I have a Pinterest board devoted to gifts, so I just have to link him to it. Considering that last year, I didn't get a Christmas, Birthday, or Mother's Day gift from him. I hope that he's stepping up his game this year.
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
No I don't think so. We have christmas presents to buy for others plus baby stuff to finish buying before he arrives in February.

I'm not sure. Maybe something small (stocking stuffer). We just booked our vacation and got new winter tires and a new timing belt for the car today. Ouch.
honeydew / 7811 posts
We're considering not gifting each other. Budget is tight with LO in the picture now, and we need lot's of big stuff like a new couch.
We both looove giving and getting presents though so it's hard to imagine not doing it

Yep! His is the gift I look forward to most each year and get most psyched about giving!
honeydew / 7230 posts
Yes, but we're definitely scaling back this year. My husband needs new tires on his car, so that may be his entire present!
eggplant / 11824 posts
Nope, we never do. We always pick a "large" mutual gift - usually something for the home, or a vacation get-away.
coconut / 8498 posts
We've never exchanged Christmas gifts. We donate whatever we would have spent to our favorite cause.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
I'd love to, but probably not. I'd rather save the money and do something else with it (like spend it on DS or put it in his savings account).
honeydew / 7916 posts
Probably, although I already found out he wanted to get me a diaper bag. I always have a hard time finding Christmas presents for him because it's right after his birthday!
eggplant / 11408 posts
Sort of? I am pretty sure that my diaper bag is going to be my gift from him, though I'll pick it out. We usually will get things we need together, and then we'll each do something small as a surprise.
grapefruit / 4085 posts
We are - I like to come up with some gifts for him that he would probably never get for himself. However we are also looking to buy a house (whenever we finally sell our co-op) and so are cognizant that there are many things to invest in in the near future.
honeydew / 7283 posts
We don't. We'd rather have the extra $ to spend on things that we want as they come up.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
We're going to Quebec City on Boxing Day and that's our gift to each other, but we'll probably still get each other a few small things too. I told him a few lie-ins would be the best gift ever... Not sure he listened though!

We decided to buy a new car. So that's our gift to reach other.plus we are going to pay off a big loan. So there goes our money

We just took a vacation to Europe and decided that would be our holiday gift this year.
pomegranate / 3275 posts
We are not exchanging gifts this year. We had two big expenses this year and we both would rather spend the money on DS, DD and the new baby (who will be born December 27th)
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
We are doing duel gifts (concert tickets and camera) and then we will do suprises by filling each other's stockings.
persimmon / 1128 posts
Probably. We always buy something big beforehand and say that it will be our Xmas/anniversary/V-day gift to each other, and then still end up exchanging gifts. DH is a fantastic gift giver so I don't mind at all.
pomelo / 5326 posts
Yes we always do gifts. He always gets me way better gifts than I get him so I need to think of something totally awesome!
grapefruit / 4823 posts
We are getting a DSLR for Christmas. That's our gift to each other
cantaloupe / 6923 posts
I didn't know people go without gifts to eachother? I love giving DH gifts. And obviously I like getting gifts back. I have a couple big surprises up my sleeve this year but we have a trip we might have to end up taking so that would be considered a gift for him as well. There is something so dang magical about buying a present I know he will love, and watching his eyes as he opens it. I am giddy for Christmas!!!
nectarine / 2936 posts
We do gifts, but he is hard to buy for. I'm thinking we should steer more towards a mini getaway or activity we could do together.
clementine / 838 posts
We gave done practical gifts to each other ( yeah we are already using them) because they were big purchases. We also do stockings to each other with a spending limit so that we have something to open. My husband bOught new goalie pads- pro-pads that were $$$$$$ and I got a pair of new nice warm fuzzy $$ winter boots. Not equal in any means but both needed and more then we would normally spend.

I don't think so. Our anniversary is close to Christmas so I think we're going to get a new washing machine and call it our anniversary + Christmas present to one another. Not very exciting/romantic, but I never know what to get him anyways!
grapefruit / 4582 posts
Yes. We only do anniversary, xmas, and fathers/mothers day. We don't do birthday presents.
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
We always do gifts! I bought him a Neat scanner/organizer that he insisted was the only thing he wanted.
