I feel like my LO might be behind in the speech department. He's almost 15 months old and doesn't say much at all. He babbles a lot but doesn't really say any words and he doesn't repeat what I say or even try for that matter.
Are you worried about any of your LO's milestones?

Kind of. I plan to ask about it at her appointment in a couple of weeks. She's clapped and waved before but it's been very rare. It bothers me because people see how old she is and always try to wave to her while saying goodbye. She just stares at them so I say she's shy but honestly, she doesn't do it really ever. She does hit things together in a clapping motion but won't do it with her hands and she doesn't really point. All of these she does out of context but I think it's just a coincidence in those cases.
She also talks a ton but she hasn't really attached words to things yet (although I don't know that this is an issue yet).

@BelugaBean: E is 11 months old and exactly the same about clapping (he JUST started knocking things together, mimicking me, but not his hands), pointing and waving.
He also only babbles, and just started in the past month or two, and only a few different syllables.
And I don't know that it's a milestone, but sometimes he seems...like he's in his own world? Like it can take several tries to get his attention (but when I do he makes eye contact and responds). I'm not sure when it's supposed to start but he won't follow simple instruction ("hand me the ball" for example).
On the flip side he's knocked the bigger physical milestone--rolling over, crawling, standing up, walking--out on the early side, so I'm guessing he just devotes more energy to them? But sometimes it just feels like he has an young infant's brain in a toddler's body, if that makes sense. And I'm sure I'm worrying over nothing--his pedi isn't concerned yet.

@Springtime: I was really worried about walking because she didn't take her first steps until she was 14.5 months! I was so jealous when I saw your pics of K walking so early! 
LO started talking a lot at 16-17 months!!

@FutureMrsMcK: It sounds like our LOs are super similar! LO understands her name but sometimes it takes a minute to get her attention. She started crawling at 7 months and started taking steps around 11 though so maybe she's working harder on those. I am going to ask her doctor but I don't think he'll be concerned. I just want to make sure it's not a big deal since some things say it is and I've seen babies as young as 7 or 8 months waving goodbye to everyone.

@BelugaBean: I asked about clapping and waving at his 9 month appt and his pedi said that MOST babies can do either one or the other by 12 months (but usually not both) BUT that it was completely normal for it to come a few months later (or earlier).

I'm not worried (per se) but I would like B to increase the number of words he uses. He babbles up a storm but only a few words are recognizable. Kinda funny though, I'll sign to him and he'll respond with "yes", "no" or "done."

Not so much, but it does aggravate me lately when I see moms trying to one up each other regarding their child's milestones. I have been coming across that quite a bit the last few weeks.

T is nearly 14 months and not walking yet. Not quite worried yet since he walks with one of our hands and has been cruising for a long long time.

Not worried, so far she's been ahead on most.
My cousins baby walked at 23 months and is 100% perfectly normal so I know not to get too worried about things.

@BelugaBean: My LO also didn't wave or clap until much later. He started to clap around 12 months and does it all the time now. He will still only wave bye bye occasionally.
@FutureMrsMcK: My LO knocked out all the physical milestones really early too!
@autumnlove: He's been on the go ever since, I can't keep up with him! I get jealous when I hear other toddlers around his age talking so much. And it doesn't help when my family is always asking when is he going to start talking?!

My lo is 13 months and isn't walking. i'm not worried as she's been cruising for a while now. I worry about her lack of babbling but she has 2-3 words she uses and we had EI come and they weren't concerned.
The other day at music class, another mom who has always bugged me because she thinks her lo is super special and so advanced asked me how old my lo was. When I told her she said "Wow! I thought she was much much younger!" Annoying, my lo is fine and developmentally on track, thank you very much!

I'm not worried but cant wait for some real words. she does imitate sounds we make and seems to have the basic consanants down. she is 14 months

I'm always worried about milestones but I usually worry for no reason!
E was repeating a few words but hasn't said anything new in a month. She started walking though and seems to care more about escaping me than repeating words right now.
With B, I am worried about his pronciation of words and the fact that he will count to 20 but his teens are always mixed.

@Springtime: I am in the same boat as you (age-wise as well). But i found that once we got past the 1 year mark, i stopped worrying as much. She has her own babble language, though she's not saying anything i can really comprehend. I do know that her receptive language skills are strong, and that she understands a lot of what i say. For instance, i turned to DH this morning and said, "i'm going downstairs" and LO burst into tears. "okok, you're coming with me too!"

I'm trying not to be. I'm friends with a bunch of ladies with babies who are a couple months older than M and I always get worried when their babies are doing things, I think M should be, too! Then I remember, she's only 12 months.
@littlek: babbling here, too. Lots of babbles, not many words. Just mama, dada and uh! (like uh oh). I'm not worried, I know they will come, they're in there.
@BelugaBean: I have an almost 13 month old and when someone waves at her, she stares at them. She hasn't gotten past the "you're new, I'm not sure" stage to the "I'll wave at everyone!" stage. She sometimes waves...when she wants to. Naturally.

@mediagirl: They only do stuff when they want to, which is infuriating! I'm always saying, "okay, say bye bye. Wave bye" and she just stares. But of course it's when they turn around she waves. Yeesh!

@Freckles: lol YUP! Oh, it happens more than once, this whole separation anxiety thing? M's going through it right now and it's torturous! Especially when I drop her at daycare.

@mediagirl: Poor thing. Poor you! Luckily, she doesn't cry when i drop her off at daycare, but she does NOT like it if i'm holding her, and i pass her off to dad. Yikes. I hear it gets better after 2 years old...seems like so far away though!

I feel the same way about speech. LO says about 3 words but also grunts at stuff. She does the normal babbling but its hard not to think she should be spitting out new words every day!

I'm worried my daughter is going to be 21 and still dragging herself everywhere instead of another means of transportation like crawling or walking, lol. She just seems pretty content to inchworm/drag herself around forever! I know she just made 7 months and I shouldnt be worried that she's not crawling...But I'm a mom. So I'm still worried.

I'm worried I'm not going to see this kid ever smile because he's always latched!
My sister's older daughter (just 2 years) took forever to talk, but the assessment was that they were so clued into her cues, that she never really needed to. (i.e. she walked to where the goldfish snacks were, pointed, and they gave her goldfish snacks. She never needed to say anything!)

My LO was 18 months old before he started adding words to his vocabulary. Prior to that he only said ball and maybe another word or two. After he turned 2 is when he would repeat after us. He is talking in sentences now, and I don't worry about it anymore.
I am worried about my niece. She is 10 months old and doesn't know how to roll over, crawl, pull herself up, or use forward motion to walk when held. I know most of it has to do with her parents. They don't encourage her to learn any of those milestones (gives her what she wants instead of making her work for it) and just hopes that she goes straight to walking.

@Springtime: my LO is about to turn 3 months. I worry sometimes because he hasn't rolled yet, and he doesn't grasp toys (but he does swat them sometimes). Should he be doing these things by now? I'm not sure.

I worry all the time about his speech development. I'm an occupational therapist so I grill the speech pathologists that I work with all. the. time. They assure me that he's on the right track! His receptive language is excellent but I just want him to use words instead of pointing and whining!
