I think I'm frugal and my friends will say the same. My brother/SILs are spenders so they think I'm cheap! As I'm sure most of you do!
Are you frugal or cheap or a spender or neither?

I'm cheap when it comes to certain things. My family has always made fun of me and my hording of money and looking for deals and coupons. so am i cheap or frugal?

Frugal! I like good quality but try and find the best deal. I don't think I need top of the line everything though.

I think I'm fairly frugal. I try really hard to look for bargains/sales/coupons.

Depends! I think I'm frugal when needed (and most of the time) and spend when I need to for quality stuff!

I'm frugal! I always make sure I find the best deal before I buy something... Like for the baby, I've used NBD for the majority of things. Why spend full price or make someone else spend double when I can get it for half off?!
honeydew / 7444 posts
I'm the same as @mrsjyw: it depends! I don't buy as much stuff as a lot of my friends, but i will allow myself to spend a little more on quality stuff. Our parents think we're too frugal, but i think we're just being responsible!

I voted neither because I have no qualms about spending big(ger) bucks on items I deem to be worth it in terms of quality and need. I'll save when I need to and skimp out on unneccesary things. Also, I do like to treat myself (and others) all the time.

@Ash: exactly!! I want quality stuff but I never pay full price. I get quality, cheap!

I like my money in my bank account...at one point my mother described one of my hobbies as counting my money.
I do spend on things though, especially on services, like getting my hair cut, painting my house, etc.

@winniebee: bahahaha and this is why I love you!
Don't get me wrong. I don't buy crap. When it comes to things that are important we spend the money. Our kitchen is a dream kitchen to many but we did not pay full price for anything and haggled the crap out of all local vendors.

I'm fairly frugal I think with a slight case of spender!

@regberadaisy: I don't buy anything craaaazy and we do save. But I like to shop. And I like to eat at restaurants I need to take some tips from you for next year though!
honeydew / 7909 posts
@regberadaisy: Darn right!! Cuz then I can use the money I saved on something else. Double win!
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@winniebee: no, I really don't think you're that bad.
I'm on it for next year!

I like quality. I will spend on quality things but will bargain hunt for the rest.

@autumnlove: Meeee too!
Spose I'm neither. In some ways I have absolutely no qualms spending money & I believe you get what you pay for. Then there are some things I hate paying for...like shipping. And, unless its something I love or gotta have, I try to buy clothes on sale.
eggplant / 11824 posts
Both/neither. I don't mind laying out $$$ for what I want and spend what many would consider a ridiculous amount on food/booze/eating out. On the other hand, I'm frugal for stuff I don't really care about (like clothes, handbags, etc.). I like to buy quality pieces but want to find them on sale.
As long as I have a good cushion of savings and all my bills are paid, I like to enjoy my money!

I'm a spendy spenderson. DH often has to rein me in from my insanity of spendaholic-ness. I want everything, I want it now, and I'll figure out how to pay for it later. I'll also reference my lipstick post, where I have 15 lipsticks in my purse...... like anyone needs that much lipstick.

Frugal! I don't like to spend and try to save as much as possible. I hate spending on things that are the *best* deal. But I also spend quite a bit on a lot of deals or splurges that I really want. I wouldn't pay $100 on a pair shoes, but I'd easily spend $150 on 5 pairs. I don't buy any groceries not on sale (and we're talking a dollar off), but will easily buy a pair of 7's on sale for $75. It's not that I'm cheap and don't like to spend, I just like to make the most of my money.

I go through phases of being a spender then I'm super frugal. I think I'm more of a spender a majority of the time. Shopping makes me happy but saving does too.
I'm more relaxed when our savings isn't weak.

Frugal with a side of cheap! I like high quality items for a great price, but I'd rather get away with doing without something when possible.

Spender... Although I don't buy things for myself really (it's baaaaaad with DD) but my spending habits creep into groceries, house stuff etc.... I could do a lot better than I am currently
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
I'm more of a frugal spender. I am working on becoming a saver because it's extremely important to me but its extremely difficult for me. I have to do weird things to get myself to save. I was never really taught how to manage money and its really affected our finances as adults!!
persimmon / 1026 posts
I voted neither though I guess I'm more frugal than a spender. I hate buying things full price, don't mind buying store brand items, always try to save a buck when possible. But I also don't have a problem splurging once in a while!

frugal! i like to shop, i like nice things, i hate parting with $$ =D so i try to find great deals on nice things. there are plenty of things i don't care about though & just choose not to spend any money on- like cable.
persimmon / 1233 posts
I was pretty cheap/frugal early in my career so we've built up a good amount of savings and now I'm more of a spender. I try to save on things I don't care about (rarely shop for clothes/makeup/pedicures, no cable TV, no car, LO's clothes are almost all hand-me-downs) but I spend plenty on things I do (travel, eating out, nanny/babysitter, living in an expensive city).
watermelon / 14206 posts
@lamariniere: Same...some things I don't cut costs with...I like the best of things, if it's some what reasonable. Other things I'll be frugal with.

I'm frugal and cheap! But sometimes I go on a shopping spree and hoard whenever I find a good deal, then won't buy anything or months.
pomelo / 5326 posts
I'm a spender. However, I also feel I'm good at saving money. I always pay myself first for retirement etc. but I don't hesitate to spend money with what's leftover. My DH is very frugal. He will research items forever before making a purchase and hardly shops at all. We balance each other out well!
pomelo / 5509 posts
@lemondrop: Same! In my head I consider myself frugal, but in reality I spend more than I should on "deals", even if it's something I don't strictly need. I've been doing better over the past year or two though!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
I voted neither. I'm obsessed with our budget and always make sure we're in the green, but do like quality over quantity and will spend more on nicer things sometimes.
DH loves to hunt for deals and when something's on sale he always asks me if we should get it, and more often than not I have to ask, "do we reallyy need it?" - I'm not willing to buy something just because it's on sale! It's still money down the drain if we're buying something on sale that we don't really *need* - then it ends up adding to the clutter in our house, which I hate. I am such a minimalist.
