I don't think I've ever gotten my boss a gift, but I would probably spend $50ish? Wine or gift basket.

@Smurfette: I didn't want to, but I know she got ME something so now I feel pressured to!
ETA: and there's NO WAY we have an extra $50 for bosses! We're having trouble buying gifts for immediate family!!!

I'm my own boss ... so no!
I used to make handmade or homemade gifts for co-workers ... Puppy chow, etc., just to spread some holiday cheer around my previous office.

@cmomma17: DH thinks we should get her something this year, cause she has been great about me missing work to take R to the doctor, sick, me sick, giving me days at Christmas when maternity leave took all my sick and vacation time.

No...I feel kind of weird doing that. Like a bit of a suck up?
Maybe just a nice card?

No, I've been here 7 Christmases and never gotten a gift (or received) from my immediate boss. We get bonuses every year from the owners & steaks. I've never gotten them anything...it would be weird.

@Smurfette: in that case I'd do something like flowers or a plant for her office (female?). With a note of appreciation in a holiday card.
My boss is also new, I only met her at the very end of August! And then I feel like if I get her something, I have to get my co-worker (a guy) something too! Ugh.

I'm just bringing some treats in for everyone. I'm making some sugar scrubs for friends, so maybe I'll bring her a jar

Yep-- she's a coffee addict so I'll probably make her a mini gift basket wtih different keurig boxes and such

No.
FWIW, I was always told that you gift "down" and not "up." So I gift to those "under" me (for lack of a better word) - my paralegal, secretary, etc. I did not get a personal gift from my boss last year. I don't know if I ever have at any job? Like others have said, I think homemade treats or something are a good idea.

Yep! There's only three of us in the department and I like her personally; we're all exchanging gifts. I'm getting her a mug that says 'World's Okayest Boss' and a nice bag of homemade cocoa
So, like 15$

only for my mini bosses
i usually spend ~$50-75 each. it's possible i go a little overboard...

@LindsayInNY: I totally agree with the up not down theory! I think it's uncomfortable to gift the person who can fire you!
