I usually am, but I guess last month's electric/water bill got lost or something, because it was never paid!
I called and they waived the late fee since this is our first late payment in almost 2 years.

Usually never late! I generally try to pay it as soon as I see it, if it's not already set up for auto payment.

Most of my bills are on auto pay, which helps. It's those medical bills that come once in a while that get us. I would rather give them a credit card at the time of visit then get a bill for it.

I'm always on top of them. I had my first ever late fee on one of my student loans a few months back, oops!

My husband takes care of most of our bills (mostly with auto pay online!) and he's never late with them.

I'm on time with all of them except the freaking sewer. I wish there was an auto pay. The county doesn't have anyway to pay except in person/mail and I must always stash the bill away like it's unimportant. Oops.

Yep. I pay as soon as we get them. I did forget the water bill last month, opps!
DH is horrible so I had to take over the bills.

most of our stuff is on autopay as a result of this! I could never remember the due dates on every single bill so it was easier to set it up to come out automatically. We have less than 5 monthly bills we have to pay manually, so they're not ever late.

Agreed! Autopay is the way to go. Also, I have an alert in my Google calendar so I know exactly when it's going out.

NOPE! So so so so SO bad. We have as many bills as possible on autopay for that reason. One of our bills is every other month, won't let us sign up for auto pay, and I forget it EVERY month.

Yep auto pay, excel spreadsheet. 15th and last day of the month pay days, make it pretty easy to pay bills early/on time.

@swurlygurl: I hate the ones that don't have autopay. The worst are the ones that don't have the ability to check accounts online. Hello! It's 2014! Get with the program!
Speaking of autopay, you can setup autopay through your bank. They send check to your billers.

No! I'm terrible about this stuff, which is why I auto-pay just about everything.
For things that can't be auto-paid, I have to practically duct tape the durn thing to my forehead to get it done.

Yes! Most of our stuff is on auto pay. Although, even the stuff that isn't I'm kind of a nazi about. Our budget makes it REALLY easy not to forget bills, so I find that really helpful.

We have everything we can on autopay because honestly I am not that good at paying bills. For some reason writing a check/finding a stamp/mailing something is one of those life tasks I just haaaaate and procrastinate on. So when we do get the random odd bill for something not on autopay I'd say there is a 50/50 shot it will be late lol. Although I do care/pay attention to what sort of bill it is. Like medical bills don't have late fees when you pay late so I always feel very "meh" about getting that paid right away. Whereas if I use a store credit card (which is rare so I don't have set to autopay) and get that bill I make sure I'm on time because they do have late fees and also report on your credit.

@bluestriped bee: I've seen that at our bank, but the concept seems so weird to me, so I haven't tried it yet... maybe I should just do it. Same with bank apps and sending a picture of your checks... how does that even work??

Yep. We budget out three months in advance, including writing down when every single thing is due on my calendar, and I can't use autopay because of the budget structure we have, but I am proud to say I haven't forgotten a bill in years!

DH is an auditor so he has that stuff on lock. I think managing the finances is relaxing for him, until he sees my random lululemon expenses

@swurlygurl: Through the bank, it's not so bad. Pros- You can manage a lot of billers in one screen online and adjust them pretty easily. Cons- Since it's not attached to the actual account, you'll have to keep track of when payments go up and down.
I use Manilla app, which is essentially an online file folder for bills. Most of my ebills are there and reduces paper mail, since i can get it electronically now.
As for the taking pics of check to have them deposited. That one confuses me, too.

@bluestriped bee: So bills that change monthly (ie water bills) you have to manage each bill? But a phone bill would be easy since it's the same every month?
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@swurlygurl: Yeah. The water bill and electric bill are setup through the biller's website so that that always gets paid in full. Like for my bank's auto pay, I have student loans, car payment, and a credit card.
My brother's bank sends me a check each month to pay for his portion of our shared cell phone plan.
Also, some billers have ebills and those can get sent to my bank account and it can show up when I log into my bank account. Then I don't have to track it down.
Though, this is for my bank, which is a fairly large bank (not huge like Bank of America). I guess it would depend on your bank.
