Are you good at driving in snow? I am not. I am heading out in a little bit to take kids to daycare not going to lie, I'm anxious.

Absolutely not. I don't drive, I would never attempt to drive in snow!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Yep. I live in New England and grew up driving in the snow, so I'm used to it. Winter tires help too.
Pro tip: don't go too slow going up hills or you won't make it!
watermelon / 14467 posts
I hate driving in the snow. Blahhhhh. Good luck! Just go really slowly.
squash / 13208 posts
yep - I am use to it - the only time it sucked was when I had a rear wheel drive vehicle - now I drive an AWD so I have no problems driving in the snow!
Be safe!

I do fairly well, but now that I'm in Texas if it snows I stay put. It's not worth it with all of the inexperienced drivers and the fact that we have no equipment to deal with the roads.

No! The last time we got a lot of snow (2008), my little convertible spun around in an intersection, again and again. I was so surprised I didn't crash into anyone. DH is great at driving in the snow so I leave it to him now.
Good luck!!

Yes. I have lived in New England my whole life. I have also always had 4wd.
be careful.
coconut / 8854 posts
Yup. Living in Wisconsin forever I need to be!! Although 4 wheel drive definitely helps!
grapefruit / 4355 posts
Yes - I grew up in northern Indiana and drove on snow every winter (didn't have AWD either). You just get used to it!
pear / 1610 posts
If I'm driving our 4wd vehicle I can do it but I don't like it. I recently drove home in a snow squall in our van and that was terrible! I seriously wished I had our SUV on that drive and was so tense till I got home. I try not to go anywhere if I don't have to but that means we are getting a little stir crazy today!
coconut / 8472 posts
Yes, I'm actually really good at it. DH usually drives everywhere, but when it's dangerous he has me take over because I'm better at it.

I just have to remember to drive a bit slower. I have AWD so it's fine as long as I go easy on the gas pedal.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
I do ok, but long long time ago I had an accident slipping on black ice (non-AWD) so I'm always nervous! I mainly dislike people that are still flying by... Even with AWD people need to learn to slow down!
nectarine / 2465 posts
@Adira: Yes! Don't stop on hills!
I was always nervous driving in the snow until I started driving AWD/4WD, now it's no problem.

@BandDmommy: be careful!
I am, but I grew up driving through snowstorms in New England. Working retail through my late teens the mall closed for nothing and you'd get fired for calling out because of snow. I got really good at maneuvering through ridiculous situations - & no 4WD for me!
pineapple / 12802 posts
Yes. Gotta be where I live! (Although... lots of people still aren't!)
honeydew / 7230 posts
I don't like it, especially now that I have kids, but I'm used to it and do fine. I live in the Midwest so I've driven through a lot of snow!
pomegranate / 3244 posts
Yes. When I got my license at 16 my dad would take me to empty parking lots and make me throw the car into spins and stuff, or make me get myself stuck in a snowbank and get out again. Important life skills when you live in the Rocky mountains
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
I usually opt out, because I can work from home. But now i have 4WD, daycare is half a mile away, and I go slow and careful. We get more ice/slush than actual snow....
pomelo / 5258 posts
Nope. We don't have it where I live. My only experience is business trips in the snow which I hate. Unfamiliar car, unfamiliar location and no idea what I'm doing.

Yup, used to live in PA. Though, I did have to remind myself what I have do when I was home and it snowed. I was scared at first but only because of I had flashbacks of when it snowed in Seattle and roads and drivers were horrible.
nectarine / 2690 posts
I'm going to say no. I've never driven a car in the snow (I don't think a UTV off road counts for this discussion!). It hailed here a couple years ago and that was horrible. I pulled over (into a gas station) until it stopped. It just doesn't snow/hail/anything out here and I've never lived anywhere that it does.

It's funny, I never thought about this as something you could be good or not good at. I'm in Ontario so driving in snow is just something that you do for several months of the year. I would guess that we're a lot better prepared for it than in other places that don't get much snow - winter tires, salters, etc.
honeydew / 7444 posts
Yes, but i have snow tires, which makes the world of a difference. AWD helps, but people shouldn't rely on it so much.
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
Yes, you have to be up here or you wouldn't go anywhere from November-April
nectarine / 2765 posts
Yup, I'm good at it.
@erinbaderin: very true, my area does an awful job preparing for snow/ice and it causes a lot of problems. Then, there's the people who haven't a clue how to drive in snow (slamming on brakes, accelerating quickly, etc) which puts everyone in danger.
pomegranate / 3658 posts
It's been years, but I'm from the East coast and had to drive in snow a lot in my teens and 20s and was quite competent at it then. Crowning achievement was on a trip to Toronto in what was even for them a historic snowfall, driving my friends in rush hour in a foot of snow to go see a show downtown. (Since of course there was still a rush hour, nobody in Toronto stays home for multiple feet of snow). In my little compact car with no chains. We made it! I sure was glad the drinking age in Canada was 19 and therefore I could buy a drink when we arrived, though, because man did I need it.
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
Yep. I don't drive in it often (maybe a few times a year where we are now), but I learned to drive in it as a teenager and have never had any problems.
apricot / 287 posts
No, I avoid it like the plague. I had to a few times in college and all I think about now is when I tried to stop at a stoplight and my car just kept going (luckily it was like 5am so the roads were empty).
grapefruit / 4418 posts
Yes, I'm from New England! I refuse to drive here if I can help it though because of other drivers and they don't treat the roads well beforehand or remove snow well.
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
@BandDmommy: haha every winter since I moved here! ️☃
pomelo / 5660 posts
@chopsuey: It was funny to see Atlanta "snow pics" this past weekend when we were getting 30+ inches
pomelo / 5573 posts
@PawPrints: This made me laugh - I'm in Toronto and we had a big storm a few weeks ago and it took me 3 hours to get to work because yeah, 8" isn't enough to get everybody to stay home.
