To an extent. I don't mind discussing things, but I don't need a vote in every little thing. Sometimes DH wants to pick apart minutae and I just can't bring myself to care about the bulbs he's planting or the furnace filters he's ordered.

Yes! We both are. We bought our house knowing that we were going to make it "us" over the course of our years there. I get so excited in picking out the simplest things for it!

Not at all! When we were re-doing the guest bathroom my husband wanted me to weigh in on every decision. My answer to him was, "I love you, we have similar taste and style and I would rather have you to blame if I hate the toilet than myself!" It came out really nice, although I would never have gone with the cheaper vanity vs the $800 toilet but the project is done and I didn't have to think about it.

Yep. I'm definitely a details person. That's part of the reason I loved the home-building process so much: got to choose every single minuscule detail!

I am, because my husband likes to share the outcome of his research.

I am totally interested - I would be jumping with joy if DH wanted me to pick new ceiling fans right now!! (Granted ours are very ugly! Lol)

Yeah- I tend to be the one to make most of the decisions in general!

Yea. I like to be involved because if I left it all up to DH, the money spent would be crazy!! Home boy has no sense of budget!

Absolutely! Any changes to the house at least get run by the other person, i'm into decor and DH is into DIY so we make a good team!

Kind of... I like knowing what's going on but there are some things I genuinely don't care about and trust my husband 100% with.

Yes! We even go pick out furnace filters together!
ETA: I do not much care about yard stuff though. I care 0% about what type of mulch, or grass seed, or lawnmower attachments he wants. Plants, a little bit. What type of retaining wall block, a little bit.

We always discuss things. But DH gets more excited about planning future home improvements than I do.

I don't like making decisions in general, but I'm picky so I guess yes.

Haha, it took us FOREVER to pick out ceiling fans. We couldn't find exactly what we wanted and we had different opinions of the options available. It would have been easier if one of use didn't care much!

Not anymore... we are trying to redo our bathroom and our contractor is making me mad so I have checked out of the process!

My husband and I are both very picky and detail oriented. We had to decide on a light fixture (my preference) or ceiling fan (his preference) for LOs room and we went round and round about it until we compromised with a "prettier" fan with stainless steel looking blades.
Picking out a paint color for the bathroom? Took forever. Picking out curtains? We are still haggling over it.

@TemperanceBrennan: HAhaha, my criteria....white and I want a remote.

I'd say 50/50. DH wanted a Nest. He did the research. I was cool with it, so we got it. When it came to putting in a new light fixture, I had some strong opinions on it. Most home design decisions are a mutual experience/compromise.

Yep! It is our house so we want both to be happy. We just bought a fan last weekend for DHs office/playroom. I helped pick it out as much as he did.
Now when we finish the basement the technical stuff, like installation, DH will do research and give me choices. Then based on what he thinks is based and price.

@cascademom: Mine wanted the Nest too. I said fine, didn't see the point really, but I do love it!

@Smurfette: I love it too. Last year when he went to his parents' for a funeral, the Nest adjusted the temp perfectly while he was away. I never touched it during that time. LO and I were comfortable throughout the whole time. Sometimes I forget to take the auto-away off and get a chill before I realize it's on. It's DH's man toy. It makes him happy and I like it. No complaints here.

Not the things that are more important to DH. He's been shopping for fence contractors and he's pretty particular about what he wants, so I'm letting him take the reins on it.
Inside the house, I like more say, though...and he gives me more say and stays away from that part.

Yep! If I have to live with it, I want to be involved. Its usually DH that has no interest.

If my budget is big enough I like to but I realized as a teenager that if it is jutlst going to be a basic fixture I would rather not be involved beyond giving one or two parameters. No sense in obsessing to make the best decision between two builders grade choices. If it is something we are sinking a lot of money into though I want something I will love.

I'm involved because DH wants me to be but at times, I'm like just pick something, I really don't care that much.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
Yes and no. When we were renovating our house, I had to know everything but the degree to which I cared varies depending on what it is!
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
Ugh. I'm really not, but I have to. We're building from scratch and I get to make every single decision.
