    @DesertDreams88: Where is that from??

@crazydoglady: there's two large IF support groups on facebook, one for women and one just in general. That was a post from Gin Stephens, the author of "Delay, Don't Deny"

@gotkimchi: hmmm, odd, that sounds like it's about right. Maybe see if you can extend your fast 1-2 hours, 3 days a week?? Another model that I use when I hit plateaus was to do two 20-hour fasts at some point in the week, whichever day worked best. So on those days it was just a meal and a snack.

@DesertDreams88: ok thanks I will try thay. Just by circumstances today I started an hour late so I’ll see if that model does anything

@gotkimchi: Are you noticing an overall decrease in the amount you are eating? I am about 3 weeks and have lost some (not a crazy amount,) but I am also eating a lot less. I was nearly binging at night. I had a lot of room for improvement.

@crazydoglady: not in the beginning like the first week but now I’m noticing more of a difference

@gotkimchi: It might just take some time as your appetite corrects itself!

@gotkimchi: I also find that sometimes when I do a snacky meal that I end up eating more and things that aren't as healthy as when I sit down and eat a meal. Maybe set a small snack and then eat a lunch and see if that changes anything.

@DesertDreams88: love what you posted - that’s exactly how I want to think this year!

@gotkimchi: I don’t know if this applies since you’re at the beginning but I’ve had luck breaking plateaus when I have an “off” day - like not binging or anything but eating outside my window. I think maybe it shakes things up. This week might do that for you if you celebrate!

@DesertDreams88: Alright so is it "normal" that I haven't gotten hungry at all in the past couple of days? I fasted from 6:30pm until nearly 1:30pm. Ate lunch because I knew I "had" to (I'm still breastfeeding) but now it's been a few hours and my window is closing for the night but I am still not hungry.

@DesertDreams88: Is this appetite correction? I figured I would still be hungry in my window.

ETA: I just did a little reading and it looks like this is just a result of IF.

@crazydoglady: yep! That’s the beauty of IF... with appetite correction I really am not that hungry any more. And when I am, it doesn’t take much to get full.

Ok, so this might be a silly question but do you all still experience PMS weight gain when doing IF? My scale hasn't budged in a few days and has even gone up a little despite eating so much less and then I realized that AF should be here any minute.

  14. bhbee

    cantaloupe / 6086 posts

@crazydoglady: for me yes ... I think in general I have not experienced linear weight loss even when I’m doing the same thing - several plateaus - but it has evened out in the end so I’d just keep on keeping on! And I sometimes have to weight myself less if I get obsessed with it not moving.

  15. mrswin

    nectarine / 2433 posts

@crazydoglady: I can’t speak to this as it relates to IF but any time I have lost weight whether it is weight watchers or anything else I have always seen a pound or so in terms of fluctuation during PMs no matter how well I eat. I think my body just retains water or whatever right before my period starts

@bhbee: @mrswin: Thank you! I ended up giving my husband the scale because I was getting discouraged and then I remembered AF. I will admit to weighing myself too much because it seemed like I had a loss every time I went on the scale. I have even done a couple 18-20 hour fasts in the past few days. I wasnt trying to get preoccupied with it. I really want to make this mentally healthy for me. It's such a slippery slope for me but I have been feeling great mentally and physically (the appetite correction and my sweet tooth is in check) until I started weighing myself too much.

  17. DesertDreams88

    grapefruit / 4361 posts

@crazydoglady: yes, always an extra 1-3 lbs and more hunger before AF.

O by the way, intermittent fasting often shortens your fertility cycle, so if you use timing and tracking to avoid conception, keep that in mind. Sorry didn't mention earlier!

Question for those times when you're just not hungry.....do you still eat b/c you think you should or do you not? As an example: I usually break my fast at noon and then go until about 7. However, there are times when I have my lunch and then am just not hungry the rest of the day. I still eat something at dinner b/c I think I should and I want to model good habits for my kids (we usually eat as a family) but wondering if you should just follow your hunger ques knowing that some days you'll be hungrier (and eat more) than others.

@gotkimchi: How are you doing? I am having a similar challenge right now. I have been consistently doing a 15 or 16 hour fast for 21 days and the scale has hardly budged... so frustrating

  22. gotkimchi

    nectarine / 2400 posts

@mrswin: I have been consistently fasting and have been noticing I’m eating less and am less hungry but the scale has hardly moved. I’m talking maybe 1-2lb. I’m trying to decide how I want to proceed. I’m not restricting what I’m eating at all so maybe i should dial it in even though I don’t really want to? Overall I feel like this is sustainable and easy so I’ve kept doing it. Idk I will probably decide after the holidays what I want to do moving forward. Cut carbs? Idk

  23. crazydoglady

    nectarine / 2431 posts

@Mommy Finger: I still eat something, but I am also breastfeeding a toddler, and I want to model eating. I just may eat less.

  24. bhbee

    cantaloupe / 6086 posts

@Mommy Finger: I think it’s a good plan to eat something but it can be less or more as you feel like it. Obviously you don’t have to, just good modeling as you say and puts off getting too hungry later. I usually opt for protein (or fiber would be good too) if it’s a small meal to maximize fullness.

I hope everyone survived the holiday week - I was thrilled to not see the scale go up even though I wasn’t true to IF every day. I tried to follow general good principles (don’t eat after dinner, don’t snack) and still got by with eating a lot!

Back on it now though to survive Christmas ...

    nectarine / 2433 posts

@gotkimchi: It seems like have had a very similar experience so far. I am happy with the appetite correction, the reduction in stomach bloat and increased energy level. I don’t want to start restricting food but it would also be rewarding to “see” some progress.
The only thing I am changing this week is to do a 100% clean fast... I was doing coffee with 2 TBSP of heavy cream but have switched to black chai tea.

  27. gotkimchi

    nectarine / 2400 posts

@mrswin: I’ve also been doing 1tbsp of heavy cream in my coffee at like 6:30am and I usually eat around 8:15. I honestly can’t imagine that matters?! And I’ve been measuring one tbsp so I’m not even guessing. But let me know if that makes a difference for you! It does sort of feel like I’m doing something wrong or like I should be getting “results”

  28. mrswin

    nectarine / 2433 posts

@gotkimchi: I feel like it can’t really be what’s holding me back but it is an easy tweak so I’m giving it a try...Like you said before I am going to keep going through the holidays and then regroup if I am still not seeing the weight loss

@bhbee: Thank you for sharing! Do you do a clean fast? I, too, have been having heavy whipping cream in my coffee. I am pretty surprised by the suggestion to have a 1 hour eating window. That just seems like too much.

  32. crazydoglady

    nectarine / 2431 posts

@mrswin: @gotkimchi: As much as I love my half and half, I think I am going to do this, too. This seems pretty compelling. As far as I can tell, I have lost about 5 lbs since starting IF about a month ago, but now the scale hasn't budged recently.

  33. bhbee

    cantaloupe / 6086 posts

@crazydoglady: there is definitely an extreme element to IF that I just ignore - I can’t see myself regularly doing anything less than 6 and I’m pretty happy with 8. I’m just not in the right phase of life for it either.
But yes I do a clean fast. I don’t drink coffee so it’s not tempting to break that. I’m down 20 lbs officially as of today so it’s worth a shot!

  34. crazydoglady

    nectarine / 2431 posts

@bhbee: I will! I am going to try it tomorrow.

I absolutely agree. Especially with still nursing.

  35. charm55

I do a clean fast too (though I don’t drink coffee so it’s not that tricky for me). During the weekdays, I now start eating when I’m hungry and that determines my window for the day. Always a minimum of 18 hours (because I really am not hungry until the afternoons anymore), but it’s usually more around 20.

On the weekends I have a longer window. I eat brunch with my family because it’s important to me and I don’t want my girls seeing me not eat with them and getting the wrong message.

Overall I find it very convenient, especially during the weekdays, that even if I didn’t lose another pound I would stick with it. I only weigh myself about once a month now... currently at my pre-kid weight. I still would like to lose another 10 lbs but I won’t restrict myself to get there because overall I’m very happy! I love the non-diet mentality of it all. I feel like I am in control, have options, and can enjoy life. Which is so key during the holidays!

    Keep on keeping on!

  36. bhbee

    cantaloupe / 6086 posts

@crazydoglady: yes - it’s so easy to forget that I told myself I wouldn’t be crazy while nursing and this was just to give things a shot and whatever happened happened.

@crazydoglady: Thanks for the article! What she is saying makes sense and if I think about it today I had a black vanilla chai tea and struggled to get through my window. Like she said the sweetness must be telling my body to get ready to eat!
I’m not big on gum but I am going to need to figure out what I can do when I am traveling on planes for work to deal with my popping ears

@bhbee: Thanks! This is helpful... a couple tips in here I will have to try. I so badly want this to work because it seems like it will be easy to manage in the long term but I don’t feel like I have found my rhythm with it yet
