I would say I've learned to be classier as an adult - I come from humble roots.

I've taken etiquette classes, where I learned the do's and don't's of dining. I also am very comfortable in all social situations, but I think that's more a function of personality and experience than innate "class".

I do love to nom on blocks of cheese though, so I guess I'm both classy and klassy

When I was little, I took etiquette classes in Singapore, so yes, I know which fork to use.

@mrbee: once it was explained to me that etiquette, in its essence, is a way to make people feel comfortable. (On a basic level, people know which fork to use and therefore there's no awkwardness about how to approach the situation.) anyhow, I imagine you as a very classy person because you make us all feel very comfortable. That is the essence of etiquette and so much more important than the technicalities!

I am in some ways, but I don't feel like it most of the time. Being a beach bum now living in Europe has made me feel like such a "hick" so to speak!

DH works at a large multi-national company and I always feel so hoity-toity when I go to dinner functions with him. But it's almost like I'm just playing pretend. I like getting dressed up and stuff but then I usually just end up feeling awkward. (And being bored with nothing to talk about.) I usually just slyly ask DH if I'm using the right utensils, etc.

I have to mentally make a "b" and a "d" to remember which bread dish is mine...I've come a long way but its not second nature. So I'd say no.

ETA: I also love proclaiming things "ooh, faaaancy" in my exaggerated hick accent so definitely not.

I'm good at faking it! My parents raised us to be comfortable in fancy restaurants as well as McDs, so if I need to, I can be klassy. Most of the time though, noooo.

I don't know. I'm certainly classy enough for where I live, even in a fancy restaurant or a rich person'a home. But I don't know if I would be in other places. The South for example, seems to have a lot of rules that I'm sure I would break.

Yes, my mother is a bit of an etiquette freak. She was horrified when I was helping her address the invitations to my baby shower and I wrote my friend's names as Mrs. Sarah Smith instead of Mrs. John Smith. Her mother (my grandmother) was even worse so my mom comes by it honestly. My husband's family is super laid back. They aren't rude, but they aren't as cognizant of etiquette and manners so I could see that leading to some "discussions" on what to teach our daughter on this subject.

Maybe I'm halfway Klassy/Classy.

I feel comfortable eating in nice places and I've mastered both the art/etiquette of the American style of dining etiquette (floating the knife and fork from left to right hand, depending on if you are cutting meat; keeping the left hand in the lap when not in use) and the Continental style (using the knife in the right hand for the whole meal as both a cutting utensil and a scooping utensil--using both hands the entire meal--pointing the fork down towards the plate instead of up, like in American style).

But also, I think I eat with my hands more than the average American when I'm at home, since my husband's culture eats with their hands for their type of food. But my DH is also really good with table manners when eating "western" food, so I have to keep up!

@MamaMoose: when it came to my wedding my mom was HORRIFIED. we got married at a hockey game, haha

Pretty classy, I agree that a portion of it is etiquette and the other portion is making people feel comfortable no matter the situation like @sloaneandpuffy said.

I'm pretty "classy" I guess, except when it comes to buying overpriced products (I think I look just as stylish in less expensive garb). I know my dinner/tea/fancy party manners and etiquette very well though.

In public, usually. In private, not so much.

I didn't even know I was supposed to cut meat with my right hand until a couple of years ago and I still look awkward when I do it. My parents never emphasized etiquette type stuff. I've had to learn as an adult to I fit in at dinner parties.
