My parents were BIG on etiquette and wanted me to be comfortable (i.e. not intimidated) in any situation in which I might find myself. I'm afraid I'm the same way now and will try to drill the same stuff into my children's brains!
DH's family is more laid back and DH's occasional lack of table manners (slurping, licking fingers etc.) drives me INSANE!

@LMOG47: I worked in the Senate before LO, and I always had scenarios running in my head of how to liven things up a bit

@MamaMoose: Slightly off-topic, but on the subject of etiquette: Did your mom throw your baby shower? My mom adheres to this etiquette rule that family members cannot give showers because it looks greedy. I know my mom would give me the BEST shower, so I really hope she gets over it!

And to answer the question, I think I can handle myself fairly well in situations that require class, but overall I am a pretty laid-back person. DH is classier than me though!

@hergreenapples: DH talks with his mouth open, uses his cellphone at the table, it drives me absolutely bonkers!

@daniellemybelle: yup... My mom was hosting my shower. She discussed it with her two sisters and they decided it was totally fine! Sadly we ended up having to cancel it after the invites went out because I had preterm labor and my doc preferred I didn't fly.

I can be fairly classy when I need to be... As a wedding planner, it's kind of a necessity! I have been described by my friends as very "poised"

Um no I grew up in the ghetto. But, going to college and marrying my husband--who went to cotillion and did etiquette classes--has taught me to have much more grace and class. probably a good thing.

I'm definitely Klassy with a K:). The not totally-right but doing a good job of faking it from afar classy!

I can when I need to be. I work with a lot of classy people. In general, DH and I are not fancy people. I still get flustered at fancy dinners/lunches though.

Yes- I know how to behave in public and around many types of people. I can put on a real show:) I grew up with money and was always used to meeting big timers and I was always like, (eye roll), really charismatic and basically I can be a chameleon around whoever I'm with.
But naturally? no? I mean I act like I'm from the hood half the time;) & I'm from the 'burbs. Oh well

Ok, so I'm at a formal dinner tonight, and I was able to share the "b" and "d" trick that @dagret brought up thanks to this thread! Haha! Everyone wanted to know where I learned that at! Hellobee is classing me up
