When we go out and use restaurant high chairs...LO is able to wiggle, arch her back and almost fall out even when the harness is on. It makes me nervous so I always rush through my meal!

Yes it does! I always make sure to have a foot on the bottom so she doesn't tip back but I am still paranoid.

I know a lot of parents who bring something like this to restaurants so they don't have to worry about ill fitting or gross high chairs http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3553506. Or also the kind that clips to the side of the table. We just use the high chair and it gets better when they are bigger and also more interested in food.

Yup, but lots of the chairs here are not very safe at all! And he's always trying to escape...

Yes! I always end up holding her on my lap (but then I'm worried she will reach for something and spill/hurt herself).

My oldest was always really good in restaurant high chairs in that I've never had to strap him in. I also use a high chair cover all the time, even now at 3.5 y.o. I did use what @T-Mom mentioned when he was younger and the tables were too high for him. It really kept him from standing up or tipping the chair. I highly recommend for containment and if you're concerned about high chair grossness. I once saw on the news about what's on restaurant high chairs and that was it for me. If I ever forget the cover, I wipe it down with antibacterial wipes as much as I can b/c fecal matter was mentioned as one of the findings on those chairs. :\

@erwoo: really!? Fecal matter? That's so disgusting.. We do wipe down with anti bac but still this is disturbing... Maybe it's time to get a high chair cover...

@T-Mom: Yeah, it's actually really disturbing. I just bought a cheap Fisher Price high chair cover and it gets the job done. Ours is so old now that the Velcro doesn't really stick anymore but better than nothing. I just have to constantly pull it back out so it's covering the seat. I should just get a new one.

yup, really don't like those high chairs, as LO has a tendency to want to stand up when she's not supposed to, and wriggle out of her seat. we bring those booster seats that @t-mom posted, even though it can be a hassle to lug it wtih you, it's so much easier at meal time in the restaurant, because it secures her in the seat, she can't stand up, and i never worry about her falling over or back, or a dirty high chair.
