At first I wasn't going to throw any party for Charlie, but then ended up having a little shindig at a local indoor gym because I didn't want to regret it.
It seems like elaborate, themed first birthday parties are becoming really popular lately.
Did you or are you planning on throwing a big first birthday bash?

Omg, I've been putting together ideas for my ky's first bday since she was 2 months old! I will definitely do something just don't know how big it will be.

We're having a themed dinner party at a nice restaurant and inviting only family and a few close friends. Since most of our family live out of state, it'll be a fairly small party (25-30ppl).
The party's going to be adult friendly since LO won't remember and doesn't have any friends.

We had a pretty big party - about 80 people - bc my husband has a lot of family and friends, but it wasn't fancy. I've been to some crazy ones that are like mini-weddings! Fun to attend, but I couldn't get my act together to plan one.

We were just talking about this today. When we have kids we want to have a big themed 1st birthday party with family and friends. I'm a corporate party planner, so knowing me, I will probably go overboard

We had an intimate gathering at my parents' house, but it would have been a lot bigger if I weren't so pregnant. First birthdays are BIG deals in Korean culture and I have friends who have spent tens of thousands of dollars on their kids' first birthdays!

Don't have a baby yet, but yes! I plan to throw big parties for all birthdays. Not only do I love throwing parties, but I want my kids to have videos and pictures of great parties. Even if they don't remember, they'll be able to feel the caring and love in the photos.

We'll probably have just a small party (just the 3 of us) for the baby's first. I think it's important to make a big deal of celebrating, but since we don't really have family or many friends here we'll do it on our own.

we had 30 people, friends and family over at our house. it was a perfect little event and not overwhelming for my daughter who had a great time and ate her first slice of cake, well cupcake. it was so much work to throw a party at home, though, even for that small of a group. the clean up is the worst!

We will definitely have some kind of big-ish family birthday party, my family especially will expect it! I haven't even given birth yet, but I know from family history that 50-60 person birthdays are just expected. I look forward to having another party to plan!

Well, we haven't come to that yet but we're celebrating LO's 100th-day today at my parents and 15 people will attend: my family, my in-laws, and some close friends. For LO's 1st birthday, there has been talks with my mom about a lavish one...We'll see, though, because I can't imagine the effort that goes into planning one!

We are, but mostly because we have such a HUGE family. I want to do smaller ones after the first year, but hubby disagrees. I'm really hoping I win that one and we go the smaller route in the future because it's so much work for one day that they won't even remember.

We didn't, it was a special day for DH and I so we spent the whole day doing new and fun things with our LO! I don't regret it but I know so many parents who went all out for their child 1st birthday. One I went to had a giant fondant cake... it looked like a crayola wedding cake.

Yes. She's 2 months now, so I have time. So many of my friends had babies near me, she already has 4 kids on the invite list.LOL

Yes! I've been thinking about it since she's been in my tummy If I could, I'd have it planned already. But I want to wait until she's a little older to see if she has anything she loves for the theme. If she doesn't gravitate toward anything it will be my love: pigs!

Yup, we're renting out a play gym as well for her 1st birthday.. This one is big since we're inviting a lot of my friends and family but I'm thinking the subsequent years will be much smaller since it'll be more focused on her friends.

Yes!! We finally decided. Excited!! We'll have 50-100 people in our house/yard. Hope it doesn't rain. Hope it ends up closer to 50. I think she won't remember it but I'd love to share video and pictures. Plus I feel like the free food and games is a way to thank the people who gave gifts and welcomed her here. I also think it also builds connections with other kids. It's hard b/c she'll be an only child and we don't have much contact with family where we live.

Omg, totally the odd one out! I really doubt we will do a big party. Actually I know we won't, LO won't know or remember. We will prob. celebrate with both families and have a get together with LO's little baby friends.

We seem to be falling in the middle of intimate gathering with friends and large blowout. We're doing two parties, one at home with my husband's family and one at my parent's home in the US. For the party at home I am baking a cake, for the party in the US I ordered a two tiered Hungry Caterpillar themed cake from a famous local bakery.
