M. is a late babbler. I'm trying to not put too much weight in it since she's so physically focused.

I think we may also have a late talker on our hands. Of course, I hope it's only that. Pedi is not yet concerned, but of course I'm a bit worried.

I am always worried. My husband thinks I have autistic tendencies and a good friend of ours son is very high functioning autistic. I watch what he does and my son and compare. I try to remember what it was like when they were little. My LO doesn't talk much and ultimately only says B and D starting words (Daddy, Doggy, Bubba, Bubbles, Ball). He also says More, Eat, Ma ma. But I feel like he is so far behind with speech. Then again he can already jump with 2 feet (at 17 months old). So he is advanced physically.

I always worry. People always say that they either walk or talk.... but my LO isn't doing either.

I kept a close eye on it at first because Sawyer's cord pH was really terrible, but once he met the first couple milestones on time I don't stress about it. I just like to concentrate on letting my baby be my baby!

Before she was even born, I read all about autism. She's still really young, but so far she hasn't shown any of the signs that I've read about. She's even a little advanced, except for not wanting to roll over. I'm expecting her to be a little delayed with speaking because we're starting her off bilingual, but it doesn't worry me at all.

I know that a few weeks or months might seem like a lot now, but I feel like she'll catch up. It seems all babies are different with early developmental milestones. The range for normal seems like a really wide margin and taking longer doesn't mean there's anything wrong.

@MsMini: the curse of the mama who knows too much! I'm glad you are able to let go and let Sawyer be. My pediatrician thinks I'm a freak. She forbids me to bring up the babbling issue until 9 months, but I'm having a hard time letting it go!

My LO is 17 months old and just started really talking last week. I was so worried at first but then let go a bit. I keep adding to his list of words and we're over 20 now. I know that he will talk at his own pace and when he is ready.

@caffeinated: 7-9 months is the outside edge for consonant vowel babbling like dadadada or babababa. At 9 months, I'll probably push for a speech eval... Though she vocalizes in other ways and I think she's getting there, it would be great to have extra support to help!

@banana: nope no speech therapy. He just doesn't say much. I was really worried at his three year old check up (because my twins who are 8 months younger were talking more) but our pediatrician said he was fine.

When he was 2.5 he barely said mama and dada regularly but one day when my husband was away on business he walked up to me and said mommy where is daddy? I was shocked. He wouldn't say little things but said a whole long sentence together, so I just figured when he has something to say he will say it. I started changing some of my behavior though and asking him to say more. Trying to not respond to just his grunts even though I knew what he wanted.

Now that he has started preschool there has been a big jump too. He will be four in a month.

@MsMini: yeah you never want to see a 6.3 or something like that. Cord pH s are notoriously unreliable though and you surely know too much!
