Our cat sheds sooooo much I don't want her on our bed otherwise the blankets are covered in fur within a couple of days, and they're a b to wash.
Are your pets allowed on the bed? How do you keep the pet hair at bay?

Yes. We have two dogs and one of them sleeps on the bed with us, the other one prefers her own bed.

My dog was never allowed on the bed. I always wiped her down when she came inside but she was always still stinky!
pomegranate / 3872 posts
Yup. Our dog sleeps with us in the bed. He's not a huge shedder. We bathe him and wash the sheets weekly. It's all good.
grapefruit / 4089 posts
Yes, our dog is! She doesn't shed though so that's a non issue. We upgraded to a King just to give us more room, because she certainly isn't small.
grapefruit / 4311 posts
Yes they are, and no we don't (keep the hair at bay) - just learned to live in a house that is going to have dog hair lol
hostess / wonderful watermelon / 39513 posts
Nope, he doesn't shed but I don't like him in bed with us...he is a loud bed hog. We had to train him to stay off.
pear / 1998 posts
The first few days after laundry day, they aren't allowed on the bed. But my resolve weakens and I let them up to snuggle while we watch tv or read. One dog prefers the closet and the other snores loudly, so neither actually sleep through the night with us.
nectarine / 2272 posts
Yep, the cats sleep on the bed a lot. I love snuggling with them. They don't shed so much, which i attribute to a high quality diet and the furminator.
grapefruit / 4817 posts
No! So gross. They also aren't allowed on furniture. I have to deal with enough hair and sand on the floor. I would lose my mind if it were in my bed.
This is also why we don't have cats. I've found it nearly impossible to keep them off of anything.
pomelo / 5257 posts
Yup! I don't know how we would keep them (cats) off it. If we shut the door on them they can open it and if we lock it they just sit there and bang on it. Very persistent lol.
grapefruit / 4703 posts
Yep, he sleeps in the bed with us. His fur is very short, so it doesn't really bother me too much, and we wash the sheets often. He's a little dainty - doesn't like to get wet/dirty, so he's never stinky or muddy or anything.
cantaloupe / 6164 posts
Yep. Our dog sleeps with us & spends a large part of the day sleeping in our bed. He's lazy. He doesn't shed though.
hostess / cantaloupe / 6486 posts
Yes she was but she didn't she'd that much. She was long hair & a lot of long haired dogs domt she'd nearly as much as short hairs.
honeydew / 7916 posts
Our dog sleeps on our bed, although I had to get a quilt from West Elm that has a texture that does a better job of not attracting dog hair.

Nope. They have their own beds. Only on special occasions are they allowed on the bed (like a thunderstorm). We don't let them on the couch either.
bananas / 9118 posts
Yes, they are allowed on the foot of the bed, but not in or around the pillows. I use a spray bottle to keep them from going where we don't want them. We bought a Target quilt as a pet cover for over the duvet and pillows and I wash that weekly. Everything else I stretch out longer to wash. All pets get brushed with the Furminator a couple times a week, which helps a ton.

Not technically, but they do sneak up sometimes when we're not looking. We have dog hair everywhere and it's just part of our life now.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
No except for thunderstorms; she needs physical human contact for those times! I can't afford to have her shed all over my sheets, plus she loves licking her feet/butt and leave stains!
pear / 1846 posts
@Mrs. Bee: getting bedding the same colour as your pet haha. We have a White dog and White bedding, there probably is hair but we can't see it. She is always spotlessly clean though because she gets so dirty on walks she has more baths than I do!

Yes my cats are. They have a cat tree that they spend most of their time on. But as of late, I've been developing bad allergies, so we've removed the tree. There is no where else comfortable for them, so I let them on the bed. Halfway through the night, it can get cold, so my senior cat likes to come under the blankets with me.
Shedding is a big issue. In the summer, I take them out for frequent brushing and wash my blankets and sheets regularly.
I clean the cat tree by using a squeegee to get all the fur before vacuuming. =)
In the future, I'd likely keep the cats out of the room during the day, but allow them to come in at night. I keep my PJs and lounge clothes separate (in drawers) from my regular work/nice clothes to avoid fur.

My dogs definitely sleep on the bed, but they have their own blankets. They love to snuggle right up next to you, and on cold mornings they always go under the covers. They don't shed though, so it's not a huge issue. Plus, I love cuddling with them in bed...sometime more than my husband
eggplant / 11824 posts
Yes, our cat sleeps on the bed (except if it's really hot out). I can judge how cold the bedroom is by her sleeping position; in fall she sleeps on my feet/ankles or between my knees. In winter she sleeps between my thighs lol
watermelon / 14206 posts
They don't sleep with us, but they're allowed on during the day. We make the bed so that the top is a blanket we don't sleep with, so we just remove it at bedtime.
admin / watermelon / 14210 posts
@Snowdrop: well she is gray and white! so gray bedding would show white hair and white bedding would show gray hair.
it drives me crazy. i can't stand the hair!
grapefruit / 4213 posts
No, our dog has a crate and bed that is just for her. We trained her that she isn't allowed on any furniture. She's a huge shedder so I vacuum the floors everyday, sometimes twice a day. LO is mobile now and I've had to come to terms with the fact that my LO is going to end up somewhat of a furball by the end of the day.
honeydew / 7230 posts
Yes, but he usually only cuddles for a few minutes and then goes and gets on his sofa. I think he does sleep there when we aren't home though. He's a big furry dog. We just wash the sheets a lot. We get our comforter dry cleaned a lot which is a PITA!
papaya / 10473 posts
Nope, nope, nope! Our big dog sheds a ton, and our two littles need to be kenneled at night because they'll have accidents if they're not.
persimmon / 1316 posts
Our dog sleeps right in the middle of us in bed he isn't really a shedding and his hair repels dirt so it's never been an issue thankfully.
cherry / 207 posts
When I was younger and single I liked having my dog in bed with me but now that I am a mom and married I dont like the lack of room or the fur everywhere (nothing like being worried your child will cough up a fur ball someday lol) so she isnt allowed in bed. My little pup is getting old now so it is probably for the best anyway.
As for keeping things clean it is a constant battle. I only buy washable items and I vacuum like crazy
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
Cats are allowed on the bed. I brush them and get them professionally groomed. They really don't shed that much.
watermelon / 14467 posts
Yep. I have two cats, you really can't keep them off anything. The dog is only allowed on the bed if it is storming.
coconut / 8854 posts
Yes! We have 2 dogs and 2 cats. The dogs at night sleep in their kennels, but both cats sleep on the bed with us. In the morning though we let the dogs out to go potty, and then I normally climb back in bed, and they come up too (one is 90 lbs, and the other is 50 lbs) hahahah we have a full bed, but like others, I wash our bedding weekly, and we use a furminator on all of our pets. I just deal with the fur. I love our snuggles in the morning too much to give that up!
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
Noooo way. He sheds way too much. And I have to lint roll or vac the sides of the sheets before washing anyway, hell if I'm doing the whole bed, lol! The wash doesn't remove the hair just spreads it around.
nectarine / 2521 posts
Heck no. My Lab is huge, snores, and if you touch him I swear a hundred black hairs fall off. Both dogs sleep downstairs in the kitchen on their own beds.
Besides, my bedroom is upstairs, and my husband leaves for work 4 days a week straight. If someone breaks in, I want the first thing they confront to be an 80 lb. dog barking at them!
persimmon / 1177 posts
Yes, our cats are. They're both black and shed a ton, but I've just gotten used to having a bedspread covered in fur
I do vacuum/lint roll it frequently. We have a pin tucked comforter that is gray, and it does a good job of camouflaging the hair in between cleanings.
I throw a plain white sheet over the bed in the spare bedroom so I don't have to wash/clean that one as much.

Yes! In fact, I am writing this right now with my 60 pound black dog napping beside me. We tried to keep him off our furniture, but that didn't last... and he is an excellent cuddler!
