They're going to monitor me for intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) because of a condition with the umbilical cord. The studies are all over the place with whether IUGR is really an associated issue or not but I am thankful for the extra monitoring just in case, since it would be a serious issue.

However, one thing both DH and I are worried about is that with the extra monitoring will end up leading to a premature induction. The hospital I'm going to is a very good teaching hospital but they do have a higher than average intervention rate. I was a small baby, DH was a small baby, and LO1 was a small baby so I think our curve is a bit different than the average American curve. Also some of the stories I'm reading from people who have the same condition are quite early inductions (like 32-34 weeks) and then the baby ended up not having had IUGR.

If your doctor pushed for early induction did you question it at all and if so how did you go about asking for more info or tests or a second opinion to make sure you weren't bringing a preemie into the world unnecessarily.
