We switched by 6 months just b/c DD hated the infant bucket seat and it was a pain for us too.

DD1 : 8 months, it was warm and easier to just carry her.
DD2: she's 10 months and I still carry her, it is cold and so much easier. I'm hoping until spring and then we will switch her!
I hate carrying it but so much easier to put the car seat in a cart and LO1 in the front, then trying to do both!

LO1 was 12 months. LO2 is now 5.5 months and I doubt we'll switch anytime soon. I want to at least get through the cold months and like pp mentioned, it's easier with two to have one already buckled in and ready to go when we go out to the car.

N: about 7/8 months. I hated lugging the bucket seat places.
E: about 6/7 months. It was too hard for me to wrangle a young toddler and the infant seat. Please E hated the bucket seat. Car rides got better when he could get up and see things.
We Babywear so it was easier for me to pop one in a carrier and walk with the other.

DD1 switched at around 11 months only due to moving and the coordination of storage of her seats. DD2 is 18 months and still fitting comfortably in the infant bucket! We don't take it out of the car unless she fell asleep and we want to head into the house, but otherwise it just stays in the car. We plan on switching DD1 to the Frontier, DD2 taking over the Diono, and washing the infant for #3 due at the end of April. But if not, DD2 would probably fit the infant bucket until 2 - she's short hehe.
