I think it is possible that he is sensitive/reactive to the Vaseline. I'm reactive to so many lotions and ointments that should be neutral but cause my skin to react

I have eczema and hydrocortisone cream works best for me. I believe they make hydrocortisone lotion. And I think others have had luck with Aveeno lotion for eczema. Good luck!

Not my LO, but I have pretty sensitive skin and tend to get weird rashes, dry patches, reactions from products. My best friend, who has a LO with eczema and allergies, suggested I detox my products. There are so many chemicals in products like moisturizer, bubble bath, etc., even the ones that say for sensitive skin.
I stripped everything down and started using only unscented castile soap (Dr.Bronners) and coconut oil. My skin has never been better!

@sandy: hydrocortisone works for the patches I get on my face and I'm sensitive to everything especially on my face neck and chest.

@rachiecakes: me too! My face reacts to everything - even stuff that is targeted for sensitive skin. I can't do all the magical creams and other anti-aging products that others use. I can't even use most make up products without my face eventually reacting. I definitely think it's detox/build up issue. I can use pretty much anything once or twice as long as it's not super harsh but any regular or even semi-regular use and my skin will react badly. Then I have to use prescription strength hydrocortisone to treat the reaction and let my skin heal. I only use Cetaphil face wash and Cetaphil lotion bc it's the mildest stuff that my face doesn't react to

@Adira: that was only way to keep DS's eczema at bay - cool bath followed by Vaseline and put on cotton pjs to cover him up

@Adira: I can't find our tub, but I doubt it has petroleum in it. It's a white creamy lotion, as opposed to a thicker jelly.

@Adira: Poor guy. Hope whatever it is, it moves along quickly.

Our derm has recommended the same for DS's eczema.
Also, I had pretty nasty atopic eczema growing up and finally outgrew it towards the end of high school. Looks like my boys will have it too.

@Adira: poor little man! I was going to say that Charlie tends to get worse eczema when he is sick, dialysis is wonky, teeth, or anything that is making his body stressed. I swear by hydrocortisone and the Eucerin eczema cream for him, plus some diaper rash cream in his creases.
