My son has really gotten into reading lately. When he's deep into a book, I've noticed a growing pause between when I speak and when he "hears" what I say. Example:

Me: "When you're done reading your book, can you pick up the floor of your room?"
Son: *say nothing, 4-5 seconds go by. then he looks up at me* "What did you say?"

I think it's karma for being slow myself when my wife talks to me when I'm deep in thought. I can hear the words she is saying, but for some reason I can't process them until I switch gears and focus on her.

Do your kids have a delay in responding to you when you speak to them? How about your SO?
