I'm EBF Elliot and he's only 3 weeks old so we're still feeding on demand. He's been gaining a lot of weight which, until today's pediatrician appt, seemed like a good thing. At his appt last week he'd gained a pound in a week, was up to 8 pounds 2.5 ounces from 7 pounds and 2 ounces the week before. Today, exactly one week later, he weighed in at 9 pounds and 8 ounces.
He's been really fussy and gassy for the past few days and his stomach is really bloated. The pediatrician said to try gas drops at least twice a day, put him on his tummy and try to eliminate dairy. Those are all things that I expected and plan on doing. Once she saw how much weight he'd gained though she said that he's gaining too fast and that he could be extra bloated because his stomach is having to take in more than his body is growing. She suggested that I pump a few times a day so that he doesn't eat as much breast milk.
That doesn't seem to make sense to me. If I pump and also feed him isn't my supply going to increase?? That seems to be exactly what we don't want right now. I'm just confused and frustrated. Has anyone else had these issues?
I won't make any actual feeding changes until I talk to her and get her take on it for sure! I just don't want him to be uncomfortable.
