B loves to eat straps! Purse straps, backpack straps, car seat straps!
Obviously we want to discourage this behavior....
We tried a taggie blanket but the taggies are just not "strappy" enough to be a good substitute.
Can anyone think of a safe, hygienic toy with straps like this that might keep him happy or something similar we could substitute?
Anyone else's LO like straps?

Lorelei likes the straps on my backpack diaper bag and will say "pack pack strap-- chew it" if I'm wearing her because she wants to chew it. I just let her. Could you maybe make something? Or have someone you know (or find on Etsy) make something? Maybe make a taggies style blanket but use actual strap material from thrifted purses, expired car seat straps, or whatever else? Then at least you could wash it if that was one of your concerns.

At places like Joann's Fabrics, they actually sell that strap material. You could get a length and sew it into a loop or onto fabric/canvas. Or, just give it to her as is.

Yep. My kids both liked stroller straps. The phase didn't last long, so I just let them chew!

@lindseykaye: It is kinda cute. I was just nursing her a minute ago and she said, "Foot. Kiss it," and then thanked me when I did. She is loving "it" right now. "Chase it," "smear it," "kiss it," "take it," etc.
I love the idea of just getting some strap material! I didn't know you could just buy it. Too cool.

Strap eater here too. I put a bib on her when she's in her carseat, over the straps so she can't chew on it. When she's in the Ergo, I wrap a small burp cloth around the strap. She can chew all she wants and I can just wash it!

Amazon has quite a few "buckle animals" - like stuffed animals, but with buckles to play with. I'm sure Etsy does too. Maybe that would be a good substitute?

My son likes straps, buckles, and I can never wear a hoodie with strings in peace. I figure its a phase so I just let him.
