I just read an entire thread on a different board and the majority of mums there bite their babies' nails!! I didn't know that was common practice. I'm a little shocked by it, personally, though I'm sure it has it's merits.
How do you trim your LO's nails? With nail clippers? Scissors? Emory boards/files? Or your plain ol' chompers?

We clip. I've never had an incident and a few minutes of TV captures his attention long enough for 20 little snips.

When she was tiny tiny we filed them but by 3 or 4 months we started using nail clippers.

Daycare clips the finger nails and I clip toenails. I can't stand the sound of a nail file and I can't get behind biting.

I was surprised to hear that people bit their babies nails too, haha. I prefer baby nail scissors, never had a problem with them.

When she was tiny, they just kind of sorted themselves out by falling apart on their own when they got too long! Now they are much tougher so we clip (or, I should say DH clips because I am too scared of hurting her!). We've only had 1 small incident so far!

With LO1, I carefully filed each nail until she was bigger/I felt comfortable enough to clip them.
With LO2, I just used clippers from the get-go. No issues!

I use nail clippers. I got a set from BRU that have a light that shines on the nail making it easy to cut.

i use piyo scissors. when LO was younger i would trim his nails during nursing sessions. these days i show him a youtube video to distract him (he's 21 months) and do it then.

Biting worked best for me for her first year. I made her bleed the first time I tried clipping them so I resorted to biting quickly as files did nothing. Now I clip them.

I clip then file, just like my own nails. I've bitten the occasional hangnail cuz it's easier and more accurate.

We bite for pretty much the first year with our kids and then use nail trimmers as soon as we're able to do so without worry of trimming some of their skin!

It obviously works for a lot of people, but I know someone that ripped their babies nail off accidently by biting, so the idea now terrifies me. Clippers while she sleeps have been super easy so far.

clip, then file! until they're older and their skin is a little tougher and less risky to cut too short, then just clip. The thought of biting anyone's nails, even my own, makes me shiver!

Oh we just avoid it... Lol. We've done a mix of biting, clipping and filing. It's difficult no matter what we try.

I honestly don't think I've ever cut them. Actually scratch that, I did when she was a newborn and clawing her face. But I haven't in months. I guess she "files" them herself clawing my skin.

I bite her nails. For those of you who are skeptical of this method: The nails are so thin when they're little, it's more like tearing. Now that I type that, I realize it doesn't sound any better. I promise it's not too bad!

My mom recommended bites my newborn's nails off, but I dodn't really like to. I hate using clippers! I've been using nail scissors for 17 months now and still going strong!

Bit the first few months with DS, then moved on to the clippers. Clippers all the way with DD.

I used very small cuticle scissors, it's what I use for my own nails, so I am quite comfortable with them.
