Do you have any witch hazel or rubbing alcohol? That sometimes helps my big bites. Some mosquitoes produce worse reactions. The ones with the white dots (I think?) are especially reactive for me. Call the ped if your worried about an allergic reaction.

I usually apply a baking soda and water paste to my bites. It feels soothing and helps draw out some of the liquid. I have nasty reactions to bug bites, but I've never had one get that big though. If it gets any worse, I might call a doctor.

@.twist.: this happens to me too... My mosquito bites get huge and DS has inherited the allergy or whatever it is. You could try to ice it to bring the swelling down.

My skeeter bites do that (it seems to be only a certain kind of mosquito, though). I usually use a benedryl anti-itch cream. I've found that the more you scratch them, the more they spread/longer they last. They are really annoying, but should go away in a few days.

Cortisone cream will reduce the itch & swelling. Not sure if its kid friendly. I would think they would have a kids version. I've had spider bites swell to the size of my hand before and this has helped it.

Put a circle around it and make sure it doesn't continue growing. Some bites can introduce bacteria and there can be a cellulitis.

Plain white toothpaste is great for drawing out the venom if you can find some. So many toothpastes are gels now. Mrs. Jacks' suggestion about drawing a circle around it is a great idea.

@.twist.: Ooh, hydrogen peroxide can kill tissue. I don't usually recommend it, though I'm glad it worked in your case.

@.twist.: It creates oxygen derived free radicals and acidification. If you have a really dirty wound and it was the only thing around, I'd go ahead and use it, but it can also kill healthy tissue, so I avoid it whenever possible!

@.twist.: Don't feel bad! In this case, hopefully the skin is closed and protecting from most of the damage
