Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on those little yellow window decals that say "baby on board". Do you think it helps alert other drivers to be more cautious or is it just pointless? What do you think??

I always thought those signs are silly. And I don't want to alert people that I had a baby. Lots of crazy people out there.....

I think those things are ruined for me because of the George Carlin comedy skit.
I'm not sure how I will feel if I didn't see that skit.

I feel like accidents are accidents. People don't mean to do it, and they won't be able to pick which car they hit. Plus I feet like bumper stickers are distractions- people are reading them instead of looking at the road!

I'm not a fan from them and I don't think any of the loonies on the road pay attention to them.

My friend does not have any kids, but he puts the baby on board sign on his car to steer away other drivers. He drives a fast car, and a lot of people on the road want to race him. He will point to the sign, and they usually back off.
Of course he gifted us with one for our own car, but I returned it because I think it's a bit tacky. The sign shouldn't an excuse for bad driving, and it won't change the way others drive on the road.

I don't think it's dumb, but don't think it's useful either. And yes. Don't want to draw unnecessary attention to yourself!

I don't think it makes much of a difference. I don't feel like people really care. Usually people don't hit your car on purpose anyway.

to be honest, I don't usually change how I drive if I see one of those signs. Not that I drive like a nut, but you know what I mean.

I think they're dumb. Oh ok, I was going to run into your car but I can see you have a baby on board sign so I won't. Really?
I always presume they are for the parents to show off that they have a baby rather than anything else. Sorry, I just have always loathed them.

I think the little yellow signs are borderline tacky but I do think that people maybe wouldn't tailgate you as badly or flick you off etc? I'd hope but like others above have said people probably drive the same in most cases. I don't think they are dumb, but I'm not sure if they'd do much to help either.

I love it! I'm still on the fence about whether or not those sticker window decals with the stick figure families are tacky or cute.

@tina: I think they were cute at first but now they're a little overdone.

@tina: I don't have a stick family on my car but I really want one with the little flag for my alma mater

Omg! The my family stickers? We have them here and they are out of control. Seriously out of control. Here they are very much 'look at me, I have kids, look at me'. Sorry ladies, touched a nerve with that one!

@cupcakemama: I know, I really do feel the same way you do, but every time I see them at the store I start picking them out for each member of the family, and the two dogs... I just can't resist personalized things like that! Gah. Need to keep your voice in mind

I have a serious disdain for the "Baby on board" signs. I would never ever put one in my car.
I kind of avoid cars with them in, because I think that people who have them in their cars tend to drive terribly, and I definitely avoid them in parking lots because every time I park beside someone with one of those stickers it seems like they ding my car with their door. Ditto the stick man stickers, I thin "Oh shit, they have a kid who is going to slam their door into my car".

@cupcakemama: haha that's so funny & I agree that I'll keep your voice in my head to resist

Glad I could be of help ladies!
They are a freaking epidemic here. Dh keeps threatening to put them on my car while I am asleep and to make mine the alcoholic one with the wine glass.
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
No one pays attention to those. Still, doesn't mean you should avoid it if you like it.

I think they are pointless and stupid. Congrats, you have a baby - I'm still driving the same either way since I wasn't driving to hit you when I thought you were a single adult driver. It also seems like the drivers with all those family stickers and the baby on board signs are the worst drivers. If they are so concerned about everyone else's driving because they have a baby, you think they would pay a little more attention to the road themselves.

OMG, where I live people put stickers on their car with outlines of kids and the kid's names. So weird.
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
@yoursilverlining: hahahaahaha
@looch: wait what? isn't that dangerous?
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
@pastemoo: It's a different attitude about safety. Kids routinely walk to school unaccompanied from Kindergarten, so there's not as much stranger danger as in the US. I personally wouldn't do it, but my SIL has three kid name things on her car for her three kids.

My husband just put a BABY INSIDE sticker on his car! The first thing I thought when I saw the sticker was, Yah a 6 foot 2 baby! Yikes. He's 'different' like that. Anyway, I secretly think it's cute even though I ridiculed him publicly. He is a good driver. Maybe he won't be anymore, now that he has the sticker. (He believes people will be more careful. I won't burst his bubble and tell him what the Bees think. Or maybe I will... )

oh no, I HAVE a baby on board sign! I thought people used them more for the shade it provides the baby, and the sign to other drivers was secondary. oops, haha

I had a friend get pulled and the cop told her he wouldn't have pulled her over if she didn't have a baby on board sticker (she was doing 72 on the freeway where the speed limit was 65). He told her that the sticker means she wants people to drive safe around her so she should be doing the speed limit.
