For those of us trying to conceive, when you get pregnant would you rather tell family during a holiday gathering or just a normal day? I am big on surprises so I think I would love to surprise them on a holiday or even like a non holiday gathering so they wouldnt suspect anything.
Am I the only crazy one planning my pregnancy reveal when I am not even pregnant?

Right now, we will plan on just revealing in a private, low-key way. We did the whole "tell everyone thing", got through the 'scary' time, and thought we were in the clear. But, we still lost our daughter. This next time, I think family won't even know until we go to the doctor and I don't think we will ever do a formal announcement until we actually have a baby.
I do think it's fun to plan the reveals, though! Holidays would be a great time to announce.

OMG I am just so obsessed with a Christmas surprise!! That's really the only holiday that I want to surprise on, so I feel like so much is at stake this round, even though it would result in revealing to family MUCH earlier than normal. What can I say, I'm a sucker for the "gift of life" on Christmas morning

We are telling DH's family over Christmas, though when we get threre a few days before not on Christmas day. We probably won't do a big reveal kind of thing, although I did like the idea of putting up stockings for everyone and having one that says Baby Foodnerd at the end. We may get a Grandma mug, or someting like that, but nothing elaborate. But I was really glad when I got my BFP that I'd be able to tell them at Christmas since we don't see his mom often.

We did a reveal at Thanksgiving last year. I was almost 11 weeks along at that point and everything looked good, so I went ahead and spilled the beans. I was also home for Thanksgiving and considering I wasn't going to be coming home for another visit before the baby arrived, it was my only chance to tell extended family in person. I just dropped it in at the end of the prayer before we all started eating. The only downside was that DH couldn't be there as he had to stay back in Australia and work.

@Jennimac: oh I know... if I had gone through what you did I would only tell my family and close friends too and never do a formal announcement.
I'm not TTC but I love the idea of giving a "present" to my parents that would announce another grandchild. How cool would that be!

I didn't tell anyone until 20 weeks, and then we mailed special announcement packages.

Last Christmas I had hoped we'd be pregnant to tell family.
We went away to DHs fam, and his brother and SIL announced. I hadn't even tested yet, but knew we were too, ugh, I was so like "dang".
We lost that pregnancy, after getting a BFP on New Yrs, so it's a good thing we didn't get crazy with that. BIL and SIL were just 8w, so they told early, so glad we didn't go there.
We got preggo again right after and told fam in April, others in May, losing the first made me super paranoid.
I think Baby Reveal's any time are super exciting, but holiday's "extra" special, or any time family is more together than regular day

I was planning my Christmas announcement since we started TTC and its looking like we would have got to do it (I will be 9 weeks at Christmas, if all goes well) but in the meantime my BIL and future SIL have announced a pregnancy then lost it so a big, family announcement at Christmas would be too cruel. We will just tell family individually and not make a big fuss this time. Maybe next time we will do a big announcement. Holiday announcements are so fun!!

@anonysquire: I'm the same, hoping that we get pregnant before the honeymoon (look at the souvenir we brought back surprise/stowaway surprise); or hoping to be able to do a big announcement at hubby's 30th next year

Yup we're looking to have his birthday party in March so fingers crossed! I like the idea of secretly filming everyone when they think you are taking a photo and saying "Alright, everyone say @anonysquire: is pregnant", then film everyone freaking out!

@SweetMamaM: Ya I have seen some videos like that on youtube that were great. I don't want to go into too much detail because I am paranoid that DH will find me here but I have a genius idea to reveal when I am pregnant to him. It involves me hiding in a closet with a camera filming him!

Love the idea of pretending to take a picture but secretly filming everyone's reactions.

We surprised everyone last year at Christmas and it really was fantastic and one of my favorite Christmas's ever. We wrapped up copies of our ultrasound pictures and a little grandparent gift and surprised our parents that way. It really was so much fun and a great way to tell everyone. We knew we were going out on a limb because I was only 10 weeks, but it did work out for us.

@anonysquire: When we did get preggo again, our goal was to wait until Easter (about 12w)! Ended up the weekend before, timing was right with families, and we were pretty dang excited. I hope you will have a BFP soon and can pick whatever holiday fits....or not and bust the news out when you're ready, ha!

We told our parents on Mother's Day (which was at 5w!) but it was the only time to tell hem in person for a long time.

While i would have loved to reveal over the holidays there are some issues as my extended family is huge and tell each other everything. I would just want our parents and siblings to know. My new plan is to hopefully more than a few weeks along by my mom's birthday in February. I already told the family I would be hosting dinner/cake at my house since we just did renovations on our house and surprise my mom/family then.
And no i dont think its crazy to dream up reveal scenerios at all

I would love a Christmas reveal! Granted, it would be kind of early if we did, but it would mostly be just our immediate families who would be there.
I love the idea of videotaping their reactions!
I also just bought DH a onesie from his alma mater for when it happens... Hopefully, it won't just haunt me from my closet!

We told DH's family last Christmas. It was earlier than we'd planned (like 7 weeks?) but I didn't want to pass on the chance to tell them all at once. We hasn't had an ultrasound yet, so I printed out, framed, and wrapped a poem from baby and included it as a Yankee Swap gift. My MIL ended up picking it to open, which was perfect.

I love the holiday surprise. I really wanted to be pregnant by mothers day so I could surprise my mom with a gift from her grandbaby, but alas, I didn't get my BFP until July

My parents live really far away from me, but they do come up for Christmas. So the holidays would be a perfect time to tell them in person. However, if I do get pregnant this cycle, I'd only be 5 weeks or so at Christmas, so I'd rather wait a little longer. I know the second I tell my mom, the news would SOMEHOW leak to her six sisters, so I think we'd be better off waiting to tell family, even if means not telling them in person.

Nope, not crazy, holiday reveals are so convenient lol! We told most of my husbands family this Thanksgiving, and are making our public announcement on Christmas. We are sending extended family Christmas cards with an announcement picture in them. I'm excited

We wanted to do a reveal at DH's grandparents on Christmas Eve last year. Unfortunately, we didn't have the money to go home again (we had been home on Thanksgiving). So instead, we announced it in Christmas cards which pretty much arrived on Christmas Eve for most people.

We did a Christmas reveal when I was like 7 weeks. We were with my parents for the holiday and wanted to do it in person. Since we had 4 people we wanted to tell at once we didn't want one person to open a gift while all the others say there confused. So we wrapped up little items of baby gear (baby lotion, baby oatmeal, bottle, and diapers). Each person got a gift and we told them they had to open at the same time because it was a "group gift". It was fun because each one didn't understand their gift it wasn't until they each realized that all the items whee baby things before they got it. We got lots of pictures.

Totally thinking of this, too. If I am pregnant this cycle I will only be about 6 weeks which is way earlier than I would like to announce it - but it just seems so perfect not to. We would only tell our parents and sisters with the thinking that if anything did go wrong we would want them to know.
For DHs' family, we want to wrap up grandma/grandpa books and an aunt onesie when we exchange gifts. For my family, my dad's birthday is right around Christmas so I would tell my sisters beforehand and when we sing happy birthday, we would say "dear grandpa" .... can't wait to see the look on their faces

I am in the TWW and I have thought about this so you are not crazy (unless I am too..lol)! My family does "dirty santa" where everyone buys a gift and then we pick numbers and the corresponding gifts. I thought of putting a onesie in there and then when someone opened that gift jumping in and saying it was ours
